Anyone’s child wear autism ID??? | Autism PDD

Share

thanks for the info

I have been reading a lot about autstic children in the news wandering off and being found, most times in a horrific manner.......and as a parent of an autistic, adventerous 2.5 year old boy I am worried he will escape the house or from me on an outing and I will lose him.

Does anyone have ID bracelets of tags on their child? I have information on his backpack for school but not on his person. If you got them what did they look like and where did you order it? Thanks

Well, I don't have one for Jason yet, but I'm planning to.  I'm waiting for the results of the hearing tests, in case it turns out that he is, in fact, permanently hearing-impaired.  If so, that will be added to the info on the bracelet.

We're getting a traditional looking ID type bracelet, so we can remove the links, but he can't remove the bracelet.  (He doesn't like stuff like that next to his skin)  BTW, I'm also getting a bracelet for myself, telling emergency workers that I am his primary caregiver and other pertinent info.

Here is a link to the place we're going to order from.  It has a variety of bracelet types.  Good luck!

The CHAD ID for the car seat. The story behind the CHAD stickers is online; a boy, 13 months old, was with his baby sitter and they were in a car wreck in which the sitter died. The emergency room nurse recognized the baby and called the parents, but otherwise they would not have known who he was or belonged to.

You can look up CHAD on The National Board of the Travelers Protection Association through Yahoo or other search engines.

The stickers incluse the child's name DOB, address and parents phone numbers along with other info. pertinent in case of emergency.

We went through medicalert and got the bracelet.  John didn't like it at first, but got used to it.  We have a sticker on both kids' carseats. It is important for ALL kids' carseats because if you were in an accident and you couldn't talk, it is a way to figure out who the kids are and who to call in an emergency. Yikes! Mine needs to be updated - thanks for the reminder! We just moved and I need to update all of that. I think here in Minnesota they are called CHADD - I believe it has something to do with a boy named Chad and how the parent was incapacitated. So, they started this program - I may be way off-base though!Hmm this never even crossed my mind.  I am definitely going to look into this!

Matthew no longer wears his...but when he did we purchased it from here:

Evie - I think your idea of noting that you are a primary carer is excellent one. So often we are focussed on what our child needs in an emergency, but I have actaully spent very little time thinking about what would happen if I were in an accident.

Well, much as I'd like to

I'd forgotten about the carseat tag, thanks for reminding me, guys!

Mason's is like dog tags like they use in the armed forces...we shortened the chain so he can't lift it over his head...he wouldn't wear the bracelet...it drove him crazy...I was worried about someone not knowing it was there because usually he wears it under his shirt...but his pediatrician told me that the arm and chest are the first places they look for ID tags...so I'm not so worried anymore.

We ordered ours through walgreens...his is only for his seizures, so I should probably update.

We ordered dd's from www.stickyjewelry.com, they have ones w/ a cloth,
sporty band (& in cute designs). She doesn't LOVE it, but she wears it when
we go out, I'm hoping to slowly get her used to always wearing it. I am
going to order some labels/stamp to go on the inside of her clothes as well.

Evie--that's really a great idea about wearing a bracelet yourself, never
thought of that. Thanks for passing that along. I want to put a label on her
carseat as well, as another parent has recommended here.

Niki--I may try the dog tag style (we have to update dd's as well w/ Autism,
hers is for seizures too. She may prefer that.I bought an ID tag that is velcro and it is on mypreciouschild.com  I believe. It velcros over shoe laces or shoe velcro straps. I think it will make me feel better to know he had ID since he is getting more mobile and interested in things away from me!
