Hello,
My name is Teresa Julian and my husband and I have started a cubscout pack for any boys ages 6 and up that have a disability. All boys should have the chance to be able to enjoy scouting regardless of abilities or inabilities.
We take boys with physical, mental, developmental, learning disabilities. We even cater to ADHD, and Autistic children.
We work at the level of each individual child and they all have the opportunity to advance, earn badges, go camping, fishing, and most importantly have fun.
We do require that a caring adult stay with the child. We meet once a week on Monday nights at 7 even thru the summer and we also try to get together twice a month for a field trip. Because of the special needs of the children we understand that money is sometimes a deciding factor in whether the boys get to participate in extra activities and we make sure this isn't a concern or burden for the parents. All boys get to participate equally.
If you could please help us spread the word that would be great. We have been doing this here in the Lynchburg area for 18 months now. We have boys that have already earned their Tigers, Wolves, Bear and are working on Webelos. Thank you ! Sincerely, Teresa Julian
That is so nice to offer this for all kids:) I want Sarah to Girl Scouts too..maybe in the fall:) That's great.. My nt son is now a bear and he loves scouts.. when my younger son gets older i am thinking of doing scouts for him also..That's great Good luck i hope you get alot of kiddos.. Thank you all. I wanted to start a Special needs Girlscout too but would need a mom or dad that would want to run it and take care of it as the boys take most of my time already. WE have mostly Autistic children, some with ADHD , My adopted twins have fetal alcohol Syndrome and we have shaken baby snydrome and CP in our troop as well as Aspergers and others. They all started as Tigers and most are now Webelos. We are so proud of them all and hope someday that they all will be EAGLE SCOUTS. Love and prayers, Teresa J I was wondering if anyone knows if they have anything like Girlscouts or anything like that for autistic children in Lynchburg Va. Please let me know we havent found anything for my Autistic 5year old daughter (Chelsea) and would love to find something for her to be active with.Any help would be wonderful. |
