Got ADOS scores | Autism PDD

[QUOTE=fordexpr1] I just hope we can get into the Dr. sooooooon. I am
really feeling kind of numb...not a good thing really. I mean, I know that I
knew Billy had autism but, it is hard...seeing it on paper, if that makes
sense.

I hope you can get in ASAP too. I understand how you are
feeling--we pretty well knew that something in the spectrum would be
the dx, for months & months now (maybe longer) and we even heard it 2
weeks ago. Seeing it this a.m. in black & white (we rec'd full report today)
& having an hour long discussion on it, it is hard. The good that will
come from it is add'l resources, support for us & our family, a more solid
plan w/ regard to education needs, and (at least for us) the answer to
help us understand our dd better. Thinking of you while this all sinks
in...

Wow, nowwhat...I think (THINK) I understand now

Thank you for the info. I just hope we can get into the Dr. sooooooon. I am really feeling kind of numb...not a good thing really. I mean, I know that I knew Billy had autism but, it is hard...seeing it on paper, if that makes sense. Thank you too emerald!! I think it must go by age. She (the examiner) mentioned his age and what she would use. Thanks everyone for the support!! I really do appreciate it.

There are different modules of the ADOS that is why the scores are different.
If you are over the cut-off for autism, that means that your diagnosis is not autism spectrum disorder but autism--they only have 2 cut offs ASD and autism. I guess they think of ASD as a lesser form of autism for the purposes of this test. So it would mean that your child has autism and not PDD-NOS or another point on the spectrum as far as I understand it.
Nowwhat

On our ADOS it listed cutoffs for autism and ASD

communication total cutoff was autism=4 ASD=2

social interaction total cutoff was autism=7 ASD=4

communication and social total cutoff autism=12 ASD=7

It looks like our cutoffs were different...I wonder if it is based on age?

emerald_52139254.5942476852Thanks a bunch Kristy! I found that stuff too

"Max 28, very autistic, below 6, not autistic."  This sounds like it is referring to a composite score and not individual subscales.

I also found a ADOS FAQ site.  http://portal.wpspublish.com/portal/page?_pageid=53,84992&am p;_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL

I also found the statement:  "The ADOS scoring algorithm includes one cutoff score for autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and a higher cutoff score for autism.    "

Here's info on the actual test:

http://portal.wpspublish.com/portal/page?_pageid=53,70384&am p;_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL

It's very frustrating!  Looks like lots of studies use ADOS as a before and after view in order to determine the impact of some cause of treatment.  However, like most of the tests our kids get, it isn't published anywhere what the scores actually mean.

Hi. OK I got Billy's ADOS scores. I think it was Fred that asked what they were. So, maybe someone can help me? I am confused

Communication Total- 4 (autism cut off is 3)

Reciprocal social interaction-7 (autism cut off is 6)

communication and social interaction total- 11 (autism cut off is 10

Imagination and creativity- 2

stereotype behaviors-2

Diagnosis: According to the ADOS, Billy meets criteria for a Dx of autism.

So, what do the cut offs mean? Could they still Dx him with another PDD (aspergers, pdd-nos)? Thanks for your help.

This paper I received in the mail was from the examiner, We still have to meet with the Dr. to get official Dx. I hope it is soon.
