Son with PDD | Autism PDD

I would like to thank everyone for their feedback.  I am impressed to hear back from someone so soon.  Here is my sons story.

I got Dillion when he was 5 months old.  I was suppose to be his caregiver for about 3 to 6 months.  Well, 2 years went by and the state was going to put him up for adoption because his mother wasn't able to get him back.  I adopted him and in the process he had to have a developmental evaluation.  Then all of this was found.  I told the state I didn't care what was wrong or what he had I still wanted to adopt him.  He is a very special little boy and I love him so much.  I have two other boys ages 22 and 18.  One of them has ADD and the other one ADHD.  That has been challenging at times.  I just want to give Dillion what ever he needs to prosper in this world.  He deserves atleast that much.

His nuerologist said he needs speech therapy and occ. therapy.  He is in head start and the school system doesn't seem to think he needs it.  I am having a hard time but atleast he goes to kindergarten in a few months and everything hopefully will fall in place.  I will keep reading this site and that should really help.

thanks for the help and advice.

Welcome to the board!!! You will find lots of information and encouragement here!Hi & welcome. Have you contacted the school district? You will want them
to do an evaluation to see if/what services they will offer you. That's great
that he's been successful in preschool, hopefully that will carry over to
kindergarten. Search this forum for "IEP," "Evaluation," "IDEA" and other
posts on this board for help with the school. Learn as much as you can
about the laws and what you are entitled to.

Is he in OT or have any sensory integration program? That may help some.
You may want to re-post (if you haven't yet) on the "Parents" board (just
above this) about your questions regarding his sleep & other concerns.

Definitely keep reading posts here and you'll learn a lot fast. Today, write a letter to your school district and ask that your child be evaluated for possible special education services. SPec. ed. is also for smart kids. It's for any child who is not developing age-appropriately in some way.  It covers academic, functional and behavioral skills (social skills qualifies in both functional and behavioral areas).  Once they receive this letter, they have 60 days to provide service if your child qualifies. ALso today, order FROM EMOTIONS TO ADVOCACY from www.wrightslaw.com  You can also search PDD on that site.  This book is unique.  It's the Bible when it comes to accessing special education for your child.  Keep us posted.

I have a son that has been diagnosed with PDD.  I don't know that much about it and was hoping to find some help.  He is almost 5 yrs. old and is starting kindergarten.  He is really good at preschool and is smart.  He plays with other children but avoids adults.  He avoids a lot of eye contact, loud noises bother him, and he sometimes repeats himself a lot. He has a problem with being away from me.  I can't even get him to sleep in his bed all night.  I need some ideas or advice.

Please help!!!!!!!!!!!
