Well last night on the daily show with jon stewart, he had Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as a guest. I was very impressed because not only did they discuss the issue of thimerisol in shots, they did a very serious job of it. I can't believe it took Comedy Central, of all networks to show they had the cajones to air this information. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ws all set to give the exclusive on this matter to ABC. The night before the piece aired, it was canned by the higher ups. When they did finally air the piece on ASD, nowhere in it did it mention the relation to mercury laced vaccines and incidence of ASD. Instead, the piece was flanked by 2 pharmacutical companies advertisements. Of course the networks aren't gonna talk shmack about the FDA or the pharmacutical companies! They get lots of bucks from them! I am so glad that a network finally had the guts to talk openly about this. This is something most of us, in our hearts KNOWS to be true! I (along with so many others) did not simply imagine the quick and severe onset of ASD and neurological symtoms and issues our kids developed right after having the MMR vaccine!! I even waited until my daughter was 19 months old before getting hers. Low and behold, within a month, she developed PDD. I NEVER worried about her before, and right after that f*cking shot, here she is rapidly developing these tell tale symtoms from which the rest of her entire life would be forever altered.

I always miss the shows! I watch the Daily Show all the time too as I love it and so does dh. I tried to catch it but I think it came on when I was still at work, because every show I caught the last couple days did not have Robert Kennedy! Gosh darn it I really wanted to catch that! Everything always comes on when I'm working or something. UGH! I'm glad it went well and hopefully will raise more awareness.

If you have comedy central on demand check that channel to see if it is on there.

You know, the Amish and their way of life has survived for many, many moons. They don't get vaccinated. Hence, almost NO signs of ASD to be found within their communities...I really wonder if it's worth it at all to get vaccinated? I know my kids would be kicked out of school if not, though...
AAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tammy
The Amish also don't usually mix with we un-Amish people, hence there'd be little to no exposure to the things we get vaccinated against. That could be true but they do marry their first and second cousins so if there is a disorder or genetic illness its run alot in that population.

If you missed the show you can catch the video at the Comedy Central website (I couldn't get video, but I did get audio).
It is unfortunate that it's only about 6 1/2 minutes long...but at least someone let him come out and talk...

Yes, that't true. The piece was short, but at least the message is starting to get out to the public. Now the Amish and the Mormon community do spend a lot of time together here in Idaho and they still do not have an autsm issue. Thet sometimes have an outbreak of measels or mumps. But they live such a healthy life. If you ever get a chance to spend some time with a group of Amish women, you will have the utmost respect for them and their way of life. They are truly amazing.
Damn those crazy Amish! LOL Just kiddin'!
Well, I do have some good news! DH and I went to his 20 year high school reunion this weekend. One of his friends, who still lives in town, is a special ed teacher and her teenager has aspergers. Well, we got to talking and she was giving me so much good info. In fact, she is going to help me because I've been having some various troubles with the school. So now I feel like I finally have someone live and in person (LOL) to help me out. She is VERY familiar with our school system, as she has been dealing with them for YEARS and our kids are very similar.
And, yes we had lots of fun at the reunion. I was shocked because I was NOT the youngest wife there... Some one had an 11 year age difference...LOL Ours in only 6 years. I drank 4 beers and I was drunk. I am such a lightweight these days...LOL

Kellie that isn't true. I grew up in one of the largest amish settlements in the world. The amish DO mix with the rest of us. They call from pay phones for what we call amish taxi's which are nothing more than people who have a vehicle (usually mini vans) who put an ad in the newspaper saying they will do amish taxi. They call these people and pay them for a ride to the grocery store, doctor offices, trips into walmart, kmart, the mall even! Amish taxi's also put ads in to haul amish work crews,... some haul them to neighboring states for logging or carpentry work.... some haul for babysitting jobs and house cleaning. Amish babysitters and house cleaners are HUGE around here. Also not all go to the amish schools.... many go to public school (through 8th grade then they quit)
The amish eat in the fast food resturaunts in town and the teenage amish even sneak out change into normal street clothes and hang out around town or find rides to the city for concerts and they also go to the movies (some of those things are "no no's" but are over looked because they haven't "officially joined the amish church until they are married") I have also seen them drag race their buggies down the road and drink underage. They frequent the fairs and other events in the community as well.
I don't mean to make them sound like bad people.... Many times they are there to lend a hand to bake food for a loss or help rebuild a home that has caught fire they say they live simple and the married amish do (although they still get the amish taxi to places - they have to because horse and buggy would take forever to get to certain areas and some roads are too unsafe for the buggies.)
Tammy you are correct they do marry their own cousins which is acceptable within their community so there are MANY cases of mental retardation and other genetic related disabilities.
Hi RachelleH ~
Your post cracked me up because I went to my husbands 20 year reunion a "few" years ago...we have a 7 year age difference...and in the bathroom, another woman looked at me and said "what are you....12 ?" can you believe that?!?!?! from a grown woman?!? I just couldn't believe it!
I am glad to hear that you met someone that knows your system...it really does help to have allies that know what you're dealing with ahead of time...best of luck!!! I hope it helps!
OK, I totally went off subject there....by the way...I did read a really nice little book: Plain and Simple : A Journey to the Amish (Ohio) by Sue Bender Of course..nothing to do with Autism. But, everytime I get a little stressed, or my car breaks down AGAIN...I always threaten to become Amish! (doubt they'd have me!!!)

OMG! How rude! LOL Naw, everyone there was very nice and down to earth. We're from a small TX town. In fact quite a few of the class of 85 still live around here! It's damn near impossible to escape!!
LOL
