Gavin's developmental pediatrician (the doctor who dx'd him) feels
very strongly that Gavin needs to be in an all day program. The
school district we are in does not offer a full day program and when I
told them that his doctor felt he needed a full day program they did
not have any suggestions for me. He goes to school about 3 1/2
hours a day and has 1 hr private St and 1 hr private OT a week. He is
doing well in school and his private therapy, but I feel guilty that he
is not getting as much as he needs. I don't even know where to start
to find an all day program. We don't have a lot of money so I cannot
afford to pay for any more therapy. I would love any advice or
suggestions you could give. What have you done for your children
and have they tolerated an all day program at 3 1/2 yrs old? What
resources have you used to find additional therapy and how do you
afford it? Thanks in advance for any insights!

Karen,
In addition to school have you thought about aba? I don't know where you are in the States but some places if you have a teffra medicaid for your child which is not based on your income...they may pay for aba therapy. I do know that here though the child usually needs a diagnosis of autism and not PDD-NOS to get approved. Do you have a cooridinator or social worker, advocate for your child that you can ask about what is available in your state for your childs specific diagnosis? Also you can call your local autism society and tell them what your dealing with here and maybe they will have suggestions for you. Here my son regardless of diagnosis but based on evaluation the school will offer him all day long and 5 days a week of preschool and they use the TEEach method here but they do not do ABA in the school system I don't believe. ABA is extremely expensive though so if that is something that your looking for then I would try and find out if there is any resources avaliable in your area that will pay for it or if your insurance will cover it...or if you don't have teffra type medicaid then you can apply for it. Thats the only thing I can think of. Maybe someone else here can come up with some ideas for you. Take care,
Karrie
