Has any child had to have an upper GI? I know lots of our kids have some severe issues with food, and as Riley's getting one on August 1st, I asked about sedation, or how the heck they're going to get him to drink the 'liquid chalk' (I guarantee he won't)....They responded that they don't like to force the older kids and can use an N/G tube if neccessary, but they DON'T SEDATE for that?!?!
Anyone else had to do this?

None of my children have had to do this but I found a very informative web-site that discusses the whole procedure. Take care...hope things go well and keep us updated.

Thanks...
mom2carlo---did your daughter have any trouble following the procedure expelling the barium? and did she have to eat the baking soda crystals too (to create gas?) Although with a feeding tube, probably not huh?
This will not be fun...that I know for sure. His first IV at 28 pounds took 5 of us to hold him still, and now that he's had 50+ since then, he'll just hold out his arm....but he does NOT like anyone looking in his mouth, and I just don't know how they're going to do this......I'll let you know.

hey there. my oldest as has several but she already had a feeding tube in her stomach. they may use a ng tube it's not pleasent but once it's in, it doesn't hurt them. it's just uncomfortable going in on a count of your gag reflux. hope this helps some.mom2carlo
