Hi my son has just started doing tharpy and i was wondering if anybody has any comments on using pic or sign language? His tharapist want to choose one and i an not sure. They said he is capable of doing sign language, but i want to make sure i make the right choice...
jaden, 5yrs mild autism I don't know what to say is best for your son for mine we actually used both. Eventually we went with pics and some sign until we started working more with speech therapy and then because all the therapist sign we pushed harder for sign. It seemed to help and even my youngest has a couple signs which typically consist of him doing more about 900 times until I figure out what he wants.My sons actually used both. The birth - 3 program was big on signing. When they started 3 year-old pre-school, they were big on pecs. Edited to add: If signing is an option, I think I would chose that simply because then you wouldn't have to worry about carrying picture cards around to help your son communicate. |
