Why is education important in parenting healthy children?
Did you know that 50% of attention deficit type disorders may be due to food additives?
Did you know that young children's junk food diets are associated with misbehavior in grade school and teen conduct disorders?
Did you know that too much TV is associated with lower grades in school, anxiety, aggression and obesity?
Did you know one very violent school found a sudden drop in violence in school after the cafeteria began serving nonprocessed foods, and eliminated additives and soda?
Did you know at that same school there are now no drop outs, weapons violations, expulsions and suicides?
Did you know that the use of mulitvitamin and mineral supplements have led to improved behavior and better grades and that certain children showed dramatic results?
Do you think it might be prudent to change your child's diet and TV watching if she is having problems?
Do you think it is better to make such changes now, while your child is young, or should you wait?
Children are suffering mentally from lack of play?
Outdoor play may be the best form of play for your child's mental and physical health, as well as his learning ability?
Mentally children are far more sensitive and vulnerable than adults?
Storying may be a more accurate measure of your child's intelligence than IQ?
According to one researcher, there are two critical childhood periods, one of which where suicide suddenly increases
Your child's brain is probably built to thrive on positive emotions and play? Have you taken advantage of this fact?
Thanks for the post. It is naive and foolish to believe that the chemicals, man-made ingredients, refined flour and sugar, and the cocktail of biologically unstable additives we consume can sustain health and have nothing to do with the woes of society. For those who haven't read it, Adelle Davis' book, Let's Eat Right to Be Fit delves into this issue very deeply. It opened my eyes to the effects of malnutrition on our world. You can weigh 300 pounds and be suffering from malnitrition if you aren't consuming the vitamins, minerals, and other necessary nutrients your body needs to function. Eating was not meant to be a source of pleasure and indulgence, but a method by which we fuel our bodies and MINDS by ingesting the proper nutrients.
If I'm remembering correctly, there is a school for kids with behavioral issues in the Green Bay area of Wisconsin that changed the menu in the cafeteria to all healthy foods. There were no vending machines, no soda, no junk food. They only served healthy, nutritious food. There was a significant difference in the students. I saw this a few years back on a national program and unfortunately I can't remember all of the specifics.
I also know that the Naked Chef, Jamie Oliver, has been working to get schools in England to change their lunch menues. I hope he comes to this country with his campaign. IMO - Changes are needed in school cafeterias across our country. To me, it just seems like common sense.
