OK - just out of curiosity, how much does it cost to attend a school like this? Do you take insurance? What about Medicaid? Do you have to be "approved"????? And finally, do you have age limits?
Again, just out of curiosity...I don't live in the area .
The Montessori School for Autism
The Montessori School for Autism offers an innovative and dynamic educational and therapeutic program designed to meet the needs of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Blending the intensive one-on-one intervention of ABA therapy (Applied Behaviour Analysis) with the child-centered, holistic philosophy of Montessori education, we provide each child with an opportunity to fulfill their greatest potential in an environment which supports their unique needs.
Who Are We?
Conveniently located in central Toronto, The Montessori School for Autism consists of a team of highly skilled and experienced professionals and educators in the fields of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), autism research and therapy, and Montessori education and administration. Our spacious facility offers a fully equipped Montessori classroom, a large and bright gymnasium, music and art room, garden, outdoor play area, library and kitchen.
Why ABA?
Applied Behaviour Analysis is the most effective and widely accepted treatment for autism. ABA relies on behavioural principles to educate the child in many areas including the development of skills in language, personal care, play, social, motor, academics, and the modifying of undesirable behaviours. Positive reinforcement and informative feedback are used. Intensive, repetitive, one-on-one teaching is at the heart of ABA therapy. It is designed to actively engage children who commonly have communication, socialization, learning and behavioural problems.
Why Montessori?
"…..Education should no longer be mostly imparting of knowledge, but must take a new path, seeking the release of human potentialities." Dr. Maria Montessori
Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952) was a physician, anthropologist and educator. Her intense scientific observation of the human being from birth to maturity allowed her to distill a body of philosophical, psychological and pedagogical principles. These, together with a vast range of auto-didactic materials, came to be known as the Montessori Method of Education. Respect for the individual needs of every child is at the very core of Montessori philosophy.
Why Montessori for Autism?
Our mission at The Montessori School for Autism combines the intensive one-on-one benefits of ABA therapy and the step-by-step guidance through the Montessori curriculum that will benefit the overall development of autistic children. The curriculum is individualized and designed to improve communication skills (both written and verbal), cognitive function, and social interaction. The promotion of practical life and decision making skills necessary for independent living are gained through the carefully guided use of manipulative Montessori learning materials and exercises introduced and implemented through ABA methods. The child works through the individualized and specialized program gaining the skills necessary to reach their greatest potential.
