what should i do???? | Autism PDD

Share

As far as his tics and stems, it seems like he's doing them more often, especially when he sits still or concentrating more. I was wondering was this normal and should I have him to stop if he's doing this? I'm learning everyday on how to handle and help my little guy more, i just want the best for him and help him as much as I can.

Has anyone ever tried any kinds of clinical trials that teams of autism specialist do? Brady is a canadiate for one close to home and I wasn't sure what all is to be expected and if it's harmful? I haven't spoken to anyone yet on this there suppose to be getting back in touch with me letting me know everything.

GOD BLESS!!

It sounds like you are pretty much set for next school year.  Here are some suggestions.  When the year begins, I would:

1.  Seek a daily sheet from the teacher that briefly states how his day went and focus on positives as well as difficulties in behavior or academically.

2.  If you are opting to retain him, make sure the school is doing something different next year than it did this year to help ensure progress.  Keep a close eye on the progress of the areas he was having trouble with academically.

3.  At the beginning of the school year or even before, seek an IEP meeting (a 60-day review unless there is an emergency) to assess progress, discuss additional services and possibly amend the IEP.

4.  If the school continues to buck you, consider hiring an advocate.

For this summer, getting a couple of math and phonics workbooks (something colorful and fun-looking) and encouraging him to work in them may help strengthen his abilities in those areas.

Good luck.  And good looking out for your son.

Thanks!

We basically are doing all of this, we have a communication log to and from school, I already requested that when he goes back that we review his progress and go from there. I'm working very hard with him on his phonics and math. He's problem is blending the sounds. He can sound the letters out but when it comes putting the words together he'll get frustrated but does fine with pictures. On math it's addition and time. I try every way imaginable to make his activities fun at home during table time, it's heartbreaking seeing him struggle. For example the word "cut" if theres a picture of scissors beside it he'll sound the sounds out for "cut" but say scissors instead. So he's teacher told me it's better for him not to have pictures. I understand what she's talking about but I also told her he understands the concept of it, that's the important thing. We need to find a diff. way of teaching him, any suggestions?
