I got divorced in Ohio...

You know how much child support I originally got from my ex...

70 bucks...

It's now up to 140 bucks....

We've been divorced since Jan 01.

Our daughter, who has Asperger's, is now 5 and a half...

During her infant years, while I was a single mommy, she was in daycare...that's when I was getting 70 bucks a month....diapers, food, formula, and daycare...70 bucks doesn't touch that.

I recently found out he was Active Duty Army....

The only thing that keeps me from persuing the matter is that I'm scared of him.

I guess Ohio's system has some serious issues.

I live in Ohio too. Here near Cincinnati there is a Catholic organization that will make a mortgage payment for you I think. I honestly don't know what they are called. It's St, something! (sorry, I know that doesn't help.) But unless you live near Cincinati it doesn't matter!

Anyway, I would check your local Catholic church. Maybe call and ask about any organizations around. I am not Catholic, but I know when I couldn't afford new glasses, that's where Human Services sent me. Then I got insurance, so i never had to call. Try it... maybe that will get you somewhere.
You aren't kidding! Im in Ohio! UGH!!!!!!!!!!

AspieMommy,

I wouldn't have been able to believe that low amount but I did see it myself. I saw a friend get .00 per child for her two children because her pathitic Ex went in and said I'm unemployed. Then when they asked how he was getting by he said I pick up cans along the roadside! Yeah he was plenty able to work (a drunk) but able. Then she had to fight for a raise because they don't like to change it in our County for three years. So the loser was free to drink up most of his wages for quite some time.

I go into court for a protection order tomarrow and he will get visitation order but no suport issue because hubbie won't discuss it and my attorney doesn't feel it pertains to the protection order. So I have to go straight through the suport office.

THE FUN NEVER ENDS DOES IT?

Anyone packing to move to Ohio right now? GOOD LUCK!

Nelle

Nelle, sometimes its 1 step foward and 2 steps back.  you have to remember single life before cliff involved 2 kids not 4.... its a different circumstance different times.....

Cliff is a baby. He refused to watch the kids to control you and leave you home miserable depressed and without friends. I bet your friends probabl;y stopped calling and stopped coming over as well. These guys do this in order to control you so you don't tell people whats going on so they can't support you to tell you what hes doing is wrong or encourage you to leave.

Denny sounds like a hes got a good head on his shoulders. Hes trying to help and thats to be praised. starts asking the social workers whats available in your area for a sitter so you can work and support your family. Also call the MR DD school and ask if they have suggestions, or any nearby autism support groups and resource centers. Type in your county and do searches for your area. contact your local ASA chapter and ask for referals and suggestions / idea, BE THAT SQUEAKY WHEEL!

You WILL make it Nelle. Stay strong and let us know how court turns out!

Michelle,

Thankyou.

I think your right. I will get by it is just going to be extremely tight. But ironically I now qualify for more government aide, I just feel weird being less indendent then I was as a single mom before Cliff.

My sweet 13 y/o old son told me he could babyset so I could go to work. (he has watched them for up to an hour while I run to the store and didn't want to wake the baby from a nap). He does very well and Brodey and Takoda are comfortable with him but he is to young to deal with the demands of special needs children for long stretches.

I just think it shows maturity that he would make such an offer. Cliff wouldn't even watch them while I went to the grocery. He would take off to the neighbors and leave Denny in charge.

I know there are some many single mom's doing it everyday with little or NO SUPORT from DAD. This is for them

And thanks for putting up with my whining.

Nelle

Minnesota recently redid the support statute.  Now it is based on what both parents make.

Tammy

Nelle, actually I think it is wise that they are keeping the protection order seperate from the child support issue. If you bring both up together it makes you look like you are being vindictive and trying to screw him over. I know it sucks and it takes time but you have to wait it out and give him time to hang himself. The longer he goes without offering a dime to support his kids the worse HE LOOKS in court. So its actually in your favor. Also once you do file they can backdate the support from the day you filed. You can also go through the jobs and family services and ask for a support order. Since you are currently seperated  / not living together he is still responsible to help care for his kids. Im surprised it wasnt set for a minimal amount when you got the temporary custody order. I think someone goofed!

Good Luck in court

Angie I am also in Ohio. Such horror stories with child support! Yes you can call child support office but if hes they type of person who quits jobs moves around and doesnt work or works under the table it wont do much good. Yes they can take the drivers license or put them in jail but that isnt helping to collect the support for the child!

Kris,... There are places you can go to to ask for help. Its easier to get funding for an electric bill than a mortgage payment though. If you fall behind on electric or gas etc you can take the bill to your county jobs and family service and ask for help with proof of income. They will pay up to a certain amount 1 time a year. However they can also refer you to church groups and other county organizations that offer help, food banks, and so on.

I hope things get straightened out for you soon!

Oh hunny that is tough. With no income from work for three months and no child support lately do you qualify for some monetary assistance from social services? Or do you belong to a church or are there churches in town that can help you with your payment this once?? Salvation army I know sometimes helps with utility bills but they want to make sure you asked 3 relatives i think it is first. There are ussually a lot of resources for food, housing and utilities in communities funded by churches. That might be worth a shot.

I hope you find help soon. I two have ex dead beats one 36000 behind in cs and one who just stopped paying in the last 2 months. grrrrr. Thank God for current hubby..hang in there hunny..

For the first time since the idiot left us which was three and half yrs. ago I can't make my morgage payment !! Mind you I haven't been able to work for three months cuz of summer school and therapies But the a--hole hasn't sent a check in three weeks so i fell behind !! We do not talk he hasn't even seen hes three yr. old son, to boot he doesn't know his three yr. old is autistic too (he knows his 8yr. old is autistic)I know when school starts in less then three weeks i'll be able to go to work and will be alright again but right now i needed that money!!! Thanks for letting me get this off my chest !!

well, About the child support I live in ohio! my fiance was married and seperated for 3 yrs when we got together. He has a 8 yr old daughter that his X refuses to let him see ever sice we had veroniqua. She took him for child support and they told him unless he takes her to court he has to pay and she can refuse visitations! well he wasnt working when she took him he was laid off and on unemployment, Unemployment never took any money and he refuses to send it in on his own because he thinks it is complete BS that she can refuse him visitations with out any reason! She has been with her boyfriend a yr longer than us! But when he filed income taxes they took everything he was behind. 00. Well in feb they suspended his licenes because he never made a pament on his own. They told him he had to pay them 325 to get them back (276 is what he has to pay) in order to get them back! Well Now he has it taken from his checks. but The point is If you press the issues about child support Them may start penalizing him!!!  In ohio they can take your lic. and Even go to Jail for failure to pay! Maybe a simple call to Child support enforcement  could help!!

Good luck to you either way! I hope it all works out for you and the kids!

Angie

i feel really sad that you guys have to go through so much crap before takign care of your children. It does make me glad that i'm a never-married mom that left anay mention of the 'sperm donor' off the birth certificate. I also didnot file any papers against him for the very reasons you all are hurting over. It does make things a little tight at times, but I'm also glad that I finished my education. It's made my options better. this way my focus is on seeing how God will provide for us and give us a peaceful, happy life.
