IEPs for ABA classrooms | Autism PDD

Share

Hi, My son is PDD and has been receiving home ABA services for a couple years.  He gets 10 hours of ABA at home now.

The school is developing an ABA classroom next year (preschool).  They are offering me 5 hours of ABA at home during the year and placement in an ABA classroom (25 hours a week).  They said they can not tell me how many one on one ABA hours he will get at school.  I have an evaluation that recommends about 15 hours of individualized DTT.  I take that to mean, one-on-one DTT.  I do not think I should an accept an IEP that does not specify the number of one-on-one hours he will get.

I was hoping someone here might be in an ABA classroom and can share what they have on their IEP.  I am especially interested in anyone that is from Mass and if so, what town.  However, all advice would be appreciated.  Thanks

Susan

We have two classes that the students get discrete trial much of the day.  The IEP states the number of consultant hours they get and that is it.  I think it is 2 consult hours a week.  The main method of instruction is via discrete trial and in one classroom they literally sit in a cubicle for 6 hours and do trials....no integration into the school, no community outings, nothing.  The other class the kids have about 50% of the day getting discrete trials and the rest of the day is group activities to generalize skills and community activities.

Susan,

I have nothing in our IEP about ABA. I wish I did but our school district is VERY resistant to using it. I am sure because it costs so much money. I have heard that some parent's have sued school districts and gotten private agencies to provide the ABA for them. I know of LODI, CA where this has happened. That is about the extent of what I have heard people getting. Good luck, Johanna
