I'm also glad her check was as good as could be I am going soon myself w/ Nicholas and I'm sure its going to be a nightmare! I need to call my ins to find out too, because we only get 1000 per person per year...like going through this isn't bad enough right!

My son won't even let me put a brush in his mouth I have him finally allowing me to use a washcloth and I scrub his teeth and gum the best I can, but I get scared what if its not good enough, so far they look okay but there was one in the back that's really yellow and I hope its okay! He just clamps down on the brush and there is blood everywhere when we try, its horrible!

I really feel for you hon, I know its scary to have your kids go under, my son was under a few times for long periods of time 3 and 5 hours (major surgeries) so I'm not too afraid of the dentist putting him under if he needs to for a short period of time, like Shakes said having them just go out is really horrifying, but I'd take that over having them scared to death and screaming etc...talk w/ you ins. and also the doctor to tell you what to expect and I'll keep you guys in my prayers!
best of luck!

Oh Susan,

I'm sorry but I'm glad that her check up went better, the fact that they can save the teeth is awesome. having your child go under for any reason is difficult, Connor had to go under twice in 1 week,  for his ears,it was brutal. I agree, the fasting and sleep deprivation is no picnic, call ahead and see if you can get the earliest appt possible. we had wonderful experiences with the staff, everyone was great. the medicine they give is awful, connor threw the first dose up and had to retake it. the hardest part for me was when he finally fell asleep, he went limp in my arms, it was HORRIFYING.  Needless to say, Dad held him the second time. Over all, it was ok, by the time we hit the masspike, he was fine, hungry as a horse but fine. i agreethat it will be easiest on poor Megan, I would assume that your medical will pick up where the dental ends, due to the fact that with gen ana. it's considered oral day surgery.  We hav eour first appt with the dentist next month, i'm so not looking forward to it , we just got him to regularly brush his teeth this past week, in  the past, i was using my best greco-roman wrestling skills to get it done at night. who knew rapping had an up side LOL. I'm sure everything will work out fine.

I have had two of my children needing extensive dental work, both under generals in hospital and it went very well. I found the waiting while they were fasting difficult (one didn't get taken into theatre until 3.00 pm) but the hospital staff were fabulous and my children were fantastic. In fact my daughter with Autism was the best behaved patient of the day and she was the only disabled one! I took their favourite toys etc. with me and made sure all the staff knew of our situation (we had one nurse be a little difficult until I explained his condition) and they were very helpful. Most of the staff involved in these situations have done this with children like ours before and they make it a lot easier. They also allowed me to come into recovery and also when they were put under which they don't allow parents of NT kids to do.  That made me feel a lot better being there for my children.  Good luck and do ring and talk to some one at the hospital beforehand if you are concerned about the procedures and they can ensure that all will go as planned.

We just got back for the pediatric dentist. It was awful screaming and screamign adn having to be held down just to look in her mouth and brush her teeth. Did I expect anything diff?? NOOOOOOO... The good news is they can save all her teeth. cap tow of them and fill another 6, white fillings in front. The bad news is hospital under general anthesia, but to be honest I agree that wil be the easiest on all of us Megan included, it is just scarey. The real bad news we havent gotten yet, the cost.. With only 1200 in dental ins per person a year I am sure we may have to pay a good share of this. They hope our medical ins will pay the hospital fee and sedation. I guess I will find out when i get the estimate in the mail. Does anyone have experience doign dental this way? What can i expect?Hi I just went threw it last Thursday with Jared, NOT quite the same but similar. My medical insurance kicked in too but he needed teeth pulled in the back because they grew in wrong and rotted so I dont know if that is anything close to what you are experiencing But he had to be under the anasticia and all that and they said technically it is because of a medical condition the reason they have to do it in the hospital so I would check into it
