Hi Flor,
My name is Angela. I have a son who is 8 years old and dx'd with PDD-NOS w/autistic features and now possible Aspergers and ADHD also, has been on Rispiridal for his aggressive behavior at school and Ritalin his concentration. So far I don't see that much of a difference in him yet, it's only been 3 weeks though. How long has your son been on his meds? He was having major meltdowns in school to the point that he kicked and scratched a teacher and knocked his desk over. This happened a month ago, the next day he went into partial a hospitalization program and had a major meltdown there too and then into the Child Assesment Unit of a Hospital here in the Boston area. He spent 9 days in the Child Assesment Unit. He had a couple celtdown there also. He has been home for 2 weeks now. He just started going to his summer program at school and my heart is in my throat every I bring him to his summer program or school because I have no idea how the day is gonna go.
I don't have any info about any places like the one you are looking into for kids with autism but I might wanna look into that for when Quinn is older. Please keep me posted on how your son is doing with his meds.
Take Care,
Angela
Im in Ohio but I never heard of it before so I did a quick search http://www.bittersweetfarms.org/ Its out near Toledo if theres anyone out that way.........
Hi, 4 weeks ago, I posted re- my son who is 14 y/o w/ PDD/Autism who is very aggressive w/ his 3 y/o sister, his Psyche doctor put him on Risperdal and Depakote, so far, we don't see a lot of result yet.My big concern is my daughter, she has grown so scared and fearful, and that it may affect her in the long run. Right now, when my son is at home, my daughter is kept in our room so my son can't hit her, and we have heard of a place in Ohio (we are in Florida) called Bittersweet Farms. It is a home for autistic adolescents/adults who was founded by parents and is government funded, it is a farm setting where they could hold various jobs like gardening, carpentry, animal care,, etc, and I am interested in my son trying it there, has anybody heard of this place before?
Hi Angela, my son Patrick has been on the Risperdal 2 mg twice a day for his aggression, and Depakote 500 mg twice a day for his mood disorder for at least a month now, and he calmed down a lot, but he still gets mad at his sister so we keep them apart still, at least he does not charge her like a bull like he used to. It's just so scary, he weighs 170 pounds, 5 ft 7 in tall and she only weighs 34 lbs! We are at our wits' end, and putting him in a group home is out of the question because we applied for his medicaid waiver 18 mos ago, and we are still waiting! The only consolation is, he is good in school, some yelling when he gets bored otherwise tolerable per the school staff and a big help at home, he loves to clean like vacuuming, dusting, and keeping his room clean. It's just when it comes to his sister, he switches from angel to devil, I guess he was our baby for 11 years and he got very used to it. Good luck on your son too.
