We have been having a very tough time with Jesse (11, autistic, mostly nonverbal) in airplanes. He is great for about 2 hours and loves it. Then he melts down completely. He hits us, hard hits himself, kicks, cries, screams, claps his hands very loudly. WE tried the DVD player but NG. any ideas? does anyone use benedryl? The dr gave us atavan but warned us not to try it for the first time onthe flight since it could have a reverse effect. any experience?
thanks, Judi
We also have a prescription for Ativan (our daughter is 7). We have used it once in the car and are planning to use it on a flight to Europe at the end of the week. It worked, in the car, but only for about 4 hours. We also have her wear a medic alert T-shirt that I made, we found it helps the whole situation if the other passengers know instead of just thinking your child is misbehaving.
