Anyone use Sylvan Learning?? | Autism PDD

Share

I personally do not but my cousin was in volved with sylvan learning a while back he was 7 at the time.. It did him wonders they really worked with him one on one and now he can read like a champ.. I have heard so many wonderful things about sylvan from people i know.. Did you go online to check it out.. I love there commericals..  Do they typically have people accustomed to working with ASD children?  Reading is a HUGE issue for us.  My son can't read the simplest words from a baby board book after being in grade school for 5 years.  My cousin has a severe case of adhd and most likely autism some where.. They really did a wonderful job working with him.. They were very patient with him and always helpful.. i will ask around and see if i can get more suggestions for you..

Hi everyone!!

My son is in Grade 1 and is struggling with reading.  Does anyone have any experience with Sylvan Learning Centre to provide tutoring for their child??

Shouldn't you be going after to school district to provide this instead of out of pocket?
Shouldn't you be going after to school district to provide this instead of out of pocket?
Yes.  You should have IEP goals that address your son's reading deficits.  If he does not show progress toward those goals, then you can request a non-public agency provide educational therapy so your son can stay at grade level standards.  Of course, don't expect the school to just shrug their shoulders and say, "Okay"!  But you need to take a hard look at your IEP goals.  It's the foundation of everything that you are entitled to fight for.  And remember, IEP goals must be at state level academic standards.
Reading help Daniel got was the lexia program. I hear it's hard to get a district to pay for private help else where. This program is what helped out this year cause before for 3 years he was at a 2.8 level. Lexia is around 160. and can be used at home.
