Mickey,
I think you may be off on the milk thing mickey. I have a sister with OCD and she doesn't even drink milk or any dairy product at all. My son has OCD and he doesn't drink milk either. My mother probably had OCD also and she didn't drink milk. My sister has had symptoms of OCD since she was a very young child and went directly from breast milk and would never even drink cows milk or eat cheese or any other dairy product.
I am just trying to find a correlation - what triggers OCD.
Does your son drink milk?
My son USED to drink ALOT of milk,.... then one day he drank it with something that offset the taste and he refused to drink milk or even eat cereal with milk for the LONGEST time. I didn't notice any difference in his behaviors, OCD characteristics, sleep, speech or anything else.
Now I did hear of a correlation between antibiodics (?) and OCD..... keep meaning to check it out, just havent had the chance..... heres a link,.... maybe if you find something out you would be kind enough to let us know. http://www.tourettesyndrome.net/links_pandas.htm OCD & PANDAS
Hey Mickey, my son has OCD characteristics from what I understand MANY children on the spectrun do.
Yes, I agree, many children on the spectrum do have OCD.
I am just trying to find a correlation - what triggers OCD.
Does your son drink milk? Sounds toooo simple. Just one of
my researches on Autism and OCD. I only research on the
internet and from experience.

Mickey,
There's no doubt that my daughter displays what might be considered classic symptoms of OCD. I won't argue that the signs seem obvious, but I think it's difficult to tell the difference at times between disorders. Nothing new there.
It may be obvious in some cases.........the counting routines, hand washing, etc.
But then there are times when I think

Not sure how this forum works.
I also read that strep may cause problems (antibiotics, etc.) I am not a doctor, just a person trying to figure out a puzzle like many others.
I have noticed that a few children who drink a lot of milk have a harder time hearing; therefore they have a harder time speaking, etc.
Perhaps this milk product creates a fluid buildup in their ears (which comes and goes). They may be intollerant to milk, dairy. A person usually craves the foods they are intollerant to.
Also, does your child eat pizza? There is a lot of cheese on pizza.
I am reading a lot on the Leaky Gut Syndrome, etc.
(antibiotics, yeast buildup, gluten/caesin free diet, etc. I know the gluten free diet is impossible to follow! (milk and cheese containing: tyramine, fermenting, etc.) (MMR, mercury in the vacines, thermisol (sp?) to keep the vaccine on the shelf longer which is mercury, etc.) I'm sure you read about these.
Are we brain washed - "milk is good for your body." Many people grew up with this advertising phrase and get highly insulted when someone tries to suggest that perhaps milk isn't the best for a human. ????????
Like I said, I am just a person trying to see if there are any correlations. I would love to help solve this puzzle.
My kids neuro told me it is not uncommon for kids on the spectrum to have OCD type behaviours. They just don't have that much luck treating them. Now Jeffrey does have OCD but he doesn't drink milk and rarely eats cheese. So I don't think milk has anything to do with it. And since he doesn't drink milk it doesn't make it any worse. What makes it worse is when he cannot see his obsession. He is overly obsessed with landmarks. To the point that even an average person can tell he has issues with this.

Sorry but the phrase "milk is good for your body" is a new marketing technique. It wasn't around when I was pregnant with my kids. They are doing that to basically show people that milk is not fattening. And I do believe you are off base on this one. Milk and dairy is not gonna cause every issue related to the autism spectrum disorder.

In fact, the IDEA that "milk is good for you" HAS been around for a very, very long time. BUT, the Aztecs and others way, way, way back did NOT drink milk and some believe this is why the hispanic/latino communities have lots of people that are lactose intolerant. They were not exposed to enough milk to train their bodies to produce the needed enzymes, etc... that digest milk and dairy properly. My dh is lactose intolerant as many of his relatives. So his OCD is not dairy induced, but that's not to say it can't be in someone else. Milk/dairy is still considered ok for a person and beneficial but now it is known that it's not the god of all that which is healthy...LOLMy boys get no dairy, and they both have OCD tendencies. I would say they probably have OCD, but we don't have a diagnosis, nor will we probably get one, at least for a long time. I think OCD just goes along with autism. I don't think I have ever known of an autistic person who didn't have OCD at least a little. I wish you all the best of luck.Rachelleh Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers has only been doing the milk commercials for a few years. He was into other things before that that would had made him a not so great spokesperson for them.
Tammy
A lot of emails about milk lately.
