Hi, I am looking for some information I saw here a while back and need to pass it along to a friend and can't find it. So I am hoping someone can help me. I am looking for some web-sites that will help to assess a child's IQ, to know where he/she is on the autsim scale. I am looking for something that will work for a older child if there is such a thing? Thanks so much for all the wonderful information I find here! It has helped so much!
I'm not really sure what you mean by an IQ test that will show where a child is on an autism scale. As far as I know, no such thing exists, and they are two completely different issues. You may be thinking of the Childbrain test, that gauges the likelihood of PDD, http://www.childbrain.com/pddassess.html Bear in mind that this assessment has nothing to do with a child's IQ.I guess what I was looking for was a way to see where a child may fall on the specrtrum, if the child was PDDNOS, Aspergers, ect,. I know that the school is suppose to test them but I doubt they really put in the time or effort. I know that alot depends on the child, the place they do the testing, the temperment of the child, ect. Thanks so much for all your help!
The child must meet the criteria for the label of Autism. That is it. No other criteria can be required, tho the SD CAN pay for an autism dx from a doctor if they want and the parents agree.
The legal educational definition of Autism in IDEA 2004:
(1)(i) Autism means a developmental disability significantly affecting verbal and nonverbal communication and social interaction, generally evident before age 3, that adversely affects a child's educational performance. Other characteristics often associated with autism are engagement in repetitive activities and stereotyped movements, resistance to environmental change or change in daily routines, and unusual responses to sensory experiences. The term does not apply if a child's educational performance is adversely affected primarily because the child has an emotional disturbance, as defined in paragraph (b)(4) of this section.
