Gathering the data can be done by anyone trained to do it. HOwever, I'd get a behaviorist or an autism consultant or the school psychologist to take the data, analyze it and come up with the actual Behavior Intervention Plan. Go to Wrightslaw and search FBA and BIP and also go to cecp.air.org There are no particular criteria for doing these assessments. However, if the BIP is not working, you can ask that another BIP be put in place. I'd want to see the staff trained by an expert to implement the BIP.If the ones doing it are experienced in doing it properly it should be fine..they know your child better than a stranger..Our ABA therapists would do them on Sarah whenever necessary..I would ask their experience on doing them and make sure your child isnt the first one they ever did! They will have more time to do a full analysis with much more data to focus on what triggers his behaviors and how to help him..since they are ones who will be with him most it might be a good idea..again though it depends on their experience in doing them and ask about the success they have had with other kids and maybe get some examples of what types of programs they used to help them...if they are experienced they should be able to answer this easily..if not than you will know they are probably not the best experts in doing this..Good luck:)
Ok I asked for a Functional Behaviorist Assesment be done on my dd at school by this Behaviorist the school had come out for one day for one hour. I asked if she could come out for the time she needs to do a full a proper assesment of my dd. Well anyways it was denied and said that they are following the plan that the IEP committee created in response to those behavior assesment.
So here is the deal I requested a behaviorist right, declined right. Now I get a email stating that they want to do a Functional Behavioral Assesment on my dd not with a Behaviorist but just the staff the works with my dd. Can they do that. I have been trying to read all the Wrights Laws and stuff to find my answer. I dont even know if I can give them any input, because I dont know why my dd does half her behaviors at school, and I dont think they know so why not have someone who knows what they are doing do it.
I guess my question is can they do that, not have the perfessional come out and do and them do it them selfs?
