Depending on what he's saying, repeating a certain phrase or TV show, it COULD be scriptingMy 10 yr old son is starting to wean off Risperdal and now he is beginning to talk to himself. Does anyone know what you would call this??? Is it stimming or something else??
Hi my son is 16 and is on risperdal 4mg a day he talks to himself but he always has done. I want to start weaning him off risperdal aswell. how are you doing it? please let me know. Liz
My 10 yr old has been doing a variety of therapies, diets (GFCF, Low Oxalate and Low Salicylate) and a specialized school that has reduced the need for meds in general...he was weaned off of his stimulant and Clonidine and is using essential oils to treat his focus and hyperactivity instead (Both my boys see an osteopathic ped that administers cranial/sacral therapy, he is a herbalist, DAN and holistic dr)...Risperdal is my struggle...he used to take 1 mg 2x/day and he was getting too sedated by it, so we have been experimenting with different levels...the mornings, he is very sleepy, so I stopped dosing him in the morning and the school had no problems with him off in the morning...so when he comes home, I would give him .25 mg tablets (one by one) until his aggression is contained (The psychiatrist recommended that I try just reducing his level .25 mg at a time, but without the osteopathic treatment in full swing, it didn't work - he was too aggressive) Reducing it this way, would be my first suggestion, so if he takes 4 mg per day, reduce one dose .25 mg (you would need .25 mg tablets)...I would choose the dose that he has the least trouble during the day (for my son, he took it at wake-up and at noon, so at noon, he would take .75 mg instead of is usual 1 mg...if he tolerates it well, then it could work...I was also told by the osteopath that he may need a few weeks for his body to adjust...when we tried this earlier, the aggression was too much to handle, so after a month, he went back to the 1 mg dose...Let me know if you have any questions!!!
