Took away BARNEY | Autism PDD

Hi everyone and thank you for all the advise on vcr's !!  I did it I took all the vcr's out of my house. My 8 yr. old son was shocked he was looking all over the house behind the t.v's under the bed. He was grabbing my hand and taking me to the t.v. Wanting to watch barney, that was two days ago today he hasn't grabbed my hand once. I felt bad doing it but now i know i did the best thing i could for my son cuz he is not glued to the t.v anymore!!!

I'm not sure about this tactic.  I mean, our kids love tv, but as parents, we set the example.  If the parent is constantly watching tv, (or online or whatever else...) then the child learns from that example.  Instead of taking away completely, why not try just turning it off and go to the park or read or something like that.  It's kind of like the saying, "Guns don't kill people, people kill people".  But, if taking it away is what helps, then more power to you.  We have 4 tvs in my house.  Even when they are on, I'm finding more and more nobodies even watching them.  So I just turn them off.
