Hi,
I am an early intervention teacher and have worked with Autistic children for 15 years providing homebased ABA in NY. I recently moved to NC and work as a 3 yr old EC teacher at CMS. I have heard good things about Cyzner and so-so things about Garr.
They are both very expensive. If you can afford it, great. But if you want quality, cutting edge services for free, then I recommend you move to Long Island, NY. They give a diagnosis by two yrs old, sometimes younger, and you automatically qualify for 20-30 hours of homebased Verbal Behavior Therapy or traditional ABA services as well as 3-5 days of speech, two days of OT and sometimes PT. You also have the option of a full day, Cyzner-like program...FREE OF CHARGE...sometimes there is a short waiting list but you will receive homebased services in the meantime. In addition to a 6 hour school based, 1 on 1 program, many parents also get an addtional 10 hours of services after school.
I have several Autistic children in my classroom and I have motivated a few of my parents to become acitive in the political process to improve educational services for Autistic Children. They do learn differently and they need intensive, direct, 1:1 instruction during the Early Years, as I am sure you already know. I wish you luck.
