This was for the school year or just for summer? They need to show you testing that gives his present levels of performance. INSIST that they explain fully what your child's deficits are and how they plan on addressing them. You are at the beginning of a LONG journey. Get a copy of FROM EMOTIONS TO ADVOCACY from www.wrightslaw.com right now. YOu might as well get off on the right foot. It will take you through what to expect at an IEP meeting, what ought to be in an IEP, how to decide, tactics to use to get the team to agree with you and also the Federal law.
My son was just diagnosed with PDD-NOS. He is turning 3 and transitiioning out of EI. We had his first meeting with the school last week. They recommended school program for him 5 days week 2 1/2 hrs and that's it. Nothing else was discussed except for summer program which they gave him and transportation. I didn't sign anything and didn't receive any copies of anything.
Is that the norm? I have been reading alot on this website thank goodness I found it as I am completley lost on proceedures.
They should have given me copies and I should have been asked to sign the IEP agreeing?
Please help....I am so overwhelmed and starting to freak out that they are trying to get away with something. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Thank you
Madeline
