Everytime I tell the Autism Site Coach that i would like the services/accommodations my son receives written in his IEP, she says well, that's part of his "support" and is written in his "supports" folder. Should I keep on insisting that I want everything written in his IEP? I have a meeting on the 30th of this month to go over some of my concerns for middle school and i know she will say that whatever we decide on will be written in his "supports" folder...
I have to be honest and say I'm not sure what a support folder is.....and I'd say YES YES YES any cnanges you want MUST MUST MUST be in the IEP.....the IEP is teh LEGAL document......just 'cause soemthing is written in a support folder doesn't mean it is legally binding......
Alwyas push for IEP clarification !!
My understanding is -- get it in writing, and yes, in the IEP. It is the legal document ...Yes. Get FROM EMOTIONS TO ADVOCACY, the BEST book to help parents advocate for their children. It's twenty bucks and available at www.wrightslaw.com
Tzoya- you really should getting some $ for mentioning that book all the time, but it does help.
IEP = legally binding document...is the support folder PART of the IEP?
Ah, good question...i'll mention it to see if the folder is part of the IEP. This folder basically consists of all the notes the site coach writes about my son's classroom supports, what they've done as far as social skills, etc., and it also includes the BIP. But it just feels like everytime i ask for certain things to be listed on the IEP, she says that it's part of my son's support. I guess i can have the actual "see support folder for services" written in the IEP?Yeah, Payne's mom. I'm beginning to feel EMBARASSED about mentioning it so much, but it really is the ONLY book of its kind and is especially effective when we use www.wrightslaw.com, too. It's just that the book give us enough of a foundation to know WHAT to look for in the book.Adam has a part on his IEP for support persons. But it it actually part of his IEP. It has never been a "folder" separate from it. I am not sure why but his Speech is considered a support person. I think it has something to do with district reporting special services in our district. But It is an actual section in the IEP. Tzoya - you tell the new people what is the BEST book that you know of - don't be embarrassed - I'm just ribbing you a lil.
