We have C's IEP meeting tomorrow afternoon to discuss next year and I'm looking over a draft of the proposed goals and there are 11 of them. He will be in 1st grade next year.
11 seems like a lot to me, but I've never seen another IEP other than C's so what do I know? I'm curious how many goals others have and whether this is average, more than average, less than average.
The way the break down by category are:
1 Articulation
2 Receptive and Expressive Language
1 Reading
1 Written Expression
1 Mathematics
3 Behavior
1 Social
1 Fine Motor
Right now my son has essentially two goal categories. Under each of these categories are subset goals, with include objectives to be mastered by a certain date. The two categories are:
Under each of these he has short term objectives/benchmarks. Currently, his total number of goals is 6. I expect that next year, once he starts Kindergarten he will have more goals since letter/number recognition/use, writing skills, and reading will be included.
11 goals actually sounds pretty good to me. I'd rather have too many than not enough. If they're on the IEP, they have to be worked on. Not sure how your social goal reads, but this is one area I've always pushed on and required a high level of focus and attention. Schools are notorious for minimizing the need for social goals with our kids. One social goal might be enough, as long as it hits on all the areas.
My IEP is 13 pages long.
We are doing the COACH goals for the IEP.
These are social/daily living goals/adaptive that we add.
LEARNING HOW TO BLOW HIS NOSE IS ONE OF JEREMY'S GOALS FOR NEXT YR.
It is pretty cool.
I had to pat myself on the back for this IEP.
