Questions about Soy and GFCF Diet | Autism PDD

Share

Hi!  Welcome aboard.  Rice milk is an alternative. May I ask who suggested the diet? We are planning to do the GF/CF diet too. (we want to run some tests first to see what is there at the start) We went to an ARI DAN! dr.  I guess we need to see an allergist too.We were told that too and put Sarah on Potato milk..it comes in a carton~dry powder and easily mixes with water..very travel friendly for restaurants and visiting people and vacations:) Sarah took to it right away and before she was a milkoholic!

While Kyle has been in some instuctional speech and occupational therapy at home all agreed he was having some sensory issues which is possibly holding us back.  Therefore we have just consulted and had Kyle evaluated with an Occupational Therapist.  She is who recommended the diet.

Let us know how it goes!

He has been on this diet for 5 months and we are going to continue for another 2 years.  I think this diet is worth a try and worth the trouble.  I would strongly recommend it.

Good luck!

Well, I have been researching the GC/CF and CSD diets lately to see about trying them.  I have learned so far that soy is a no no.  I remember it said that it had a lot of natural glutamate in it, which acts like MSG and that is has similar protein markers on it to wheat, which makes it likely to be attacked by the body as wheat is.  I don't remember about whether it has casein. My sons are both on the GFCF and my youngest was tested and has a high oxalic acid level...so all the milks mentioned are high oxalate, so we just use coconut milk instead and supplement with calcium citrate. It is true that the soy protein is very similar to casein, so if you
are doing CF it is best to avoid soy as well, especially if you are
planning to do soy milk/yogurt/cheese etc. I am trying a CF diet
for my son,  and he gets soy milk with his morning cereal and
nothing else. We will slowly transition him to rice milk. I was told
to mix 50% soy milk with 50% rice milk at first.

Hope that helps.
Well I plunged my whole family into rice milk.  No one drinks it plain, but we use it in our cereal, which currently is rice crispies or tasty-o's.  We have been doing it a few weeks and never plan on drinking cow's milk again, not after what I read about it.  And cow's milk really does make some of my family members quite cranky.  I use Rice Dream because it is the only brand they sell here.  But I do plan on trying coconut milk.  I will have to order it from the internet, but I heard it is really the best choice as far as health goes.  My two boys are GFCF and Low Oxalate and the only milk substitute for us is coconut milk...we use Thai Cuisine Organic (I've heard it's the best, doesn't have sulfites)...I get mine at whole foods, but I also noticed that amazon.com carries it too!!! The one thing about cococut milk is it can be very thick, so I just add distilled water (my dr says it's the best) so it's not so thick..unless you want to try the lite version (but my kids are paper thin - so they need the extra fat)...

I do like the foll websites, check them out:

Another thing to lear about is food rotation, inwhich you rotate each of the food groups every 4th day.

Good luck!

Hi, this is my first time posting, we're recently diagnosed.

I have a question about the cow's milk substitutes. What has been the most
successful milk replacement, taste wise? My little guy is picky, we've worked
very hard to get him to drink cow's milk, the thought of switching is making
me nervous!

I'm talking brand names. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
