Potty Training Problems | Autism PDD

My little guy wasn't poop trained until around age 8. He was pee trained at 6. Is your granddaughter hypersensitive? My friend's daughter went poop in her underwear (not diaper, underwear is tighter) twice, hated the feeling of having it there, and trained herself basically after that. My son, however, is hyposensitive and seemed to like the feeling. It took alot of time with him and what I had started doing was making him wash out his own underwear (with my help in the beginning). Smelly dirty work, but you get used to it, and it's all for a good cause.

I was hoping that someone out there might be able to share some suggestions. We have given her rewards, books, toys, and punishment and nothing is working. She is able to hold her BM for 3-4 days and then she goes in her sleep, sometime during the night.

I don't have any suggestions for my son, I am thinking of making a social story for my granddaughter to see if this helps, but anything from anyone, we would also be willing to try.

What is her diagnosis?  Some kids on the spectrum won't fully potty train until at least 7 years of age.  Maybe she just isn't ready yet.  Both of mine didn't potty train until the age of 7.

Tony just thought it was "ewwww" (gross) to "put" his BM in the toilet....He didn't think it should go anywhere but in the GARBAGE,LOL!!

Plus I read somewhere that some kids take thier time with the BM part of potty training because it's the last thing they have "control over".

GOOD LUCK!!!

God Bless you & your Family & keep you all safe!
