My dd is 18 and finaly got a diagnosis of asperger's with overt sensitivity. We have been told she should apply for ssi or social security. Her father has been diabled for years due to kidnyes and diabetes. She has always been homeschooled with two semester exceptions (another story, did not go well). She recieves money because of her father but loses it when she graduates in June.
She is going to college this fall. She has dfficuites of course but part of me can't see getting disability while the other part of me knows college will be all she can handle it will be a challange in some areas. Could she work at a walmart or fast food never. The crowds, the noise the smells she'd loose it.
Has anyone else ever been where they were told to file. I know the worst they can say is no. Social Security themselves said to file, that way they might start at the time her other money stops. But I still wonder. Family tells us we are used to this life so that is why I have trouble seeing the severly limited part.
Thnaks for listening!
I'd go ahead and file. I did, and was denied, but it doesn't hurt to try!
