I am raising a 3 year old (my grandson) with ASD and Static Encephelopathy. After aging out of EI, he went into Pre-School Disabled classes 5 days per week. I do not feel this is helping him; actually I've seen some regression and LOTS of acting out behaviors that were not there before.
I've seen from other posts that others in NJ are receiving much more comprehensive services. How did you obtain these services? The school district presented me with an ISP in such a manner as "this is it, this is all we can do and we know best", but I believe he needs much more. What is the process for challenging an ISP? He is scheduled for a comprehensive evaluation with CHOP Regional Autism Center in June (I'm doing this on my own, not through the school district - his diagnosis was made by the doctor the school district sent him to, but the additional testing the doctor recommended the district declined to pursue). Would it be better to wait until he's been evaluated by CHOP (which I've been told will include ADOS to clarify his diagnosis on the spectrum)?
I live in Riverside Township, which is in Burlington County. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
