Help Please........
My 8 year old has been getting potty trained for about a year now, he will go when you put him on the potty,But will go in he's pullup too.
I usually put him on the chair every two hrs. which works well but how do you get him off the pullups and for him to know when he has to go to go in the bathroom???
I did my kids in the summertime, kept them outside naked as much as possible. That way they would pee down their legs and they HATED that. They figured it all out pretty fast (well, if almost five was fast) but before that I had tried EVERYThING!
What we did is one weekend we took them to the bathroom every 15 to 30 minutes. Now it wasn't done in a weekend but over an extended period of time they did get potty trained with the pullups. I know sometimes even now when Jeffrey comes home from school he will take off his underwear and put a pullup on. Could be the material is irritating him. But with consistency and repetition it can be done. NOw Gabe, lol, it took him longer because he is so lazy!!!

My pediatrician told me to try putting underwear under the pullup, so they will feel they are wet, but you won't have such a mess. I am trying to put my 5yo in underwear some of the time so at least he gets the idea that being wet isn't great. That could be a good idea unless they have issues with certain types of materials touching their skin. I know Jeffrey has major issues with that still. His blanket has to be a certain type of material. When he was younger he would only wear sweat shirts. Now you couldn't get him to wear one even if you gave him all of the things in the world. He also will cut the tags out of everything. He cannot stand that next to his skin. But alot of people do that too. Also he is real picky about how his clothes fit him.
Another thing is some of these kids cannot tell when they are wet. It doesn't phase them.

Adam wears his underwear we bought him on his head like a spiderman mask. He will do this when he can't find his regular spiderman mask..LOL LOL He screams bloody murder if we try and get him to put them on the proper way. I don't think he likes the way real underwear feel. I have tried a couple times to potty train him.....I think next time I am going to just keep him naked for a few days during the process...maybe that will help? I have no idea with this kid..LOL

My son has been wearing boxer briefs since he was five, and won't wearAny children like to sleep with nothing on??
My child will go to bed fully clothed (P.J.s) when i go in 15 min later to check on him he's naked This happens all night until he falls asleep then i'll go put on he's pullup.NOt pottied trained and will soak the bed and it will not bother him
we did the "no pants dance" here and it work well we brought him to the potty maybe every 30 mins or so, another thing we noticed is he didn't like the underwear so we switched to boxer shorts. it made all the difference in the world.my dr. also told us to get rid of the pull ups when we started potty training, stating that most kids can't tell the difference between those and the diaper. he had it down in a few weeks. I don't know if this will help at all...but we had the same problem with Riley and underwear....I finally found some that he wears (not that it helped the potty training....8 1/2 and still struggling....we've all decided that he just can't "feel" it, doctors included) but Riley wouldn't wear any underwear we bought until we tried the Fruit-of-the-Loom boxers...like 90% cotton/10% poly and no tags....but he wears them no problem now, where he'd wear nothing we bought in the past. I think it was the same, he didn't like how they felt. They're more like shorts than underwear...thank god...cuz now of course, that's all he wears...period...unless we go out.

P.S. We do the "every hour" thing now with him, since he can't tell if he has to go....top of the hour, he has a timer, goes to the bathroom whether he thinks he has to or not.
horanimals,

You know I noticed on that link that the boxer brief's don't come in toddler sizes. Do you think the traditional boxers would be worth a try? They do have those in the toddler sizes.
