My father never had the chicken pox (or no one not even his 5 bros and sisters or his mom remember him having it) yet he was around me and all the kids when we got it.
On the flip side he does get cases of shingles every once in awhile so we at least know he was exposed to it.
the outbreak near shakes352 were the kids I was talking about.

what i find amazing about these vaccines and the need for boosters, we had an outbreak of chicken pox here and the majority of kids who came down with it had the shot, they're cases were mild and lasted only a few days but i remember withboth of the kids, i was desperately trying to search out someone who had the chicken pox so i could avoid the shot, ( laughable that back then my only concern was if they'd come down with shingles when they got older) when i asked the ped, he said most certainly these kids would need abooster of the chicken pox vaccine as they got older. oh well, i'll have mine mercury free, Thank you.
The one thng they are hoping for is that the vaccine will also prevent shingles later on in life even in those people that do get the chicken pox but were vaccinated.
What kids are you talking about? If you are referring to the kids in China, they didn't get the chicken pox, they got sick from the herbs they were taking to protect against the chicken pox.

All those links talk about the kids taking herbal medicines to ward off chicken pox, not that they had chicken pox.
I fought the chicken pox vaccine tooth and nail until the daycare said if they didn't get it they wouldn't be allowed back to daycare. Well, ALL daycares around here have that policy, so i broke down and let them get it. It's ridiculous that companies and the public school system thinks they can tell us what foreign substances to put into our children. I was going to get a waiver for the school system, but daycare requires all the vaccines anyway, so what else is a single mom supposed to do? Not work or go to school? <sigh>Unfortunately we don't have any rights anymore. Are we still technically a free country, yeah, but at what cost? And I am with you on that one. Everytime you are turning around anymore they are taking away one right and then another.
Tammy You know your right there about daycare. Daycares are private so they can decide not to accept your child in there program. This gives them the ability to choose not to take kids that are not immunized. The school system is a different story. There are loop-holes to get out of immunizations for your children with them. OH...none of my children have had the chicken pox vaccine. It was avaliable for Adam but was not manditory. I chose not to let him have it because I would rather him have it at a young age then to get it when he gets to be an adult because he would have to have a booster like what? every 10 years? I can't trust any of my kids to keep up with an immunization after they leave home. And when adults get the chicken pox there is a higher death rate. Of course there are the risks of having the chicken pox and then years later having all kinds of complications etc from the exposure to the disease but I out weighed the risks considering I had an adult neighbor die from the chicken pox years ago. I would just rather adam have it during childhood. So if any of your kids have chicken pox....LET US KNOW......were comming over!!!! LOL Karrie I know my ex husband never had the chicken pox. So anytime there was a kid that had them he couldn't go around them. I have always heard if you get it as a adult it is worse on you than when you were a kid. Thankfully as kids we had the chicken pox and the measles. We all had it at once so my parents got it done and over with. Didn't help they we had them around Christmas tho
Tammy I saw on msnbc.com this morning where these kids in china were taking this herbal recipe, that met all of the government's scientific requirements, and 150 of them got sick and one died. And, surprise, surprise, it was for protection against the chicken pox. Tammy Whooping cough booster urged for teens http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8421837/ New meningitis shots urged for kids http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7994214/ __________ Tammy It didn't say. I was wondering about that too. Tammy Oh yeah my granddad had polio. And later in life he had to have two hip replacement surgeries. The first one didn't take because he didn't stay off his feet long enough. Gotta love that generation.

Tammy actually the chicken pox vaccine isn't a guarenteethat they won't get chicken pox, but rather if they do get it they should have milder cases. SO I am not suprised the kids got it. Also some people simply never become immune to the disease no matter how many times or severe they have had it (I have a cousin who has had it 3-4 times at least once was severe)
