Sleep problems and Seraquel | Autism PDD

Lets see Gabe was on Benadryl for awhile but he got immuned to it.  So now he takes melatonin, which will help you fall asleep.  He also takes ambien, along with clonidine.  Now with Jeffrey he has been on chloral hydrate for years.  Some nights it work, some nights it don't.  Also I have noticed that in the summer it does take them longer to fall asleep, no matter what meds they are on.

my son who is 14 took seraquel, it really help his behavoirs but would put him to sleep.  we did notice that the day after giving him seraquel his behaviors were much worse.  We stopped the seraquel and started melation, clonadine and if nessecary ambient.

Sue,

My kids have never taken Seraquel but I have. It worked for me and I didn't have any major side effects from it.  I have a high tolerace for medications and it still knocked me out, so I would recommend that if any one uses this prescription drug to only take it when you are absolutly positive that you will be going to sleep. LOL

Does anyone have experience with pddnos teens that are having sleep problems at night? It's not insomnia because he does get a full 8-10 hours, but he can't seem to fall asleep until very early morning hours. We've tried Benadryl at night, incentives for getting up in the morning, etc. That works temporarily but then as soon as he doesn't take a Benadryl, he can't fall asleep. The doctor talked today about trying him with Seraquel for the short term, to try to get him turned around before school starts again. I know everyone's body reacts differently, but does anyone have experience with this?

Tx, Sue
