pinching and biting | Autism PDD

he is now sometimes just doing it- without us doign anything to him- and he gets amused that we say OUCH!!!! and he laughs-

He could be doing that for effect too.  I know Gabe does alot of things for an effect or to get a reaction.

My Nephew= {PDD-and 2/12 yrs old}:

He likes to scale things...walls, chairs,,,the bed- your behind!! etc... Therapists say let him do it for a lil bit- like 5-10 minutes- then try to distract him=-ok,,we do that- but when we do- he will cry- and come over to you and try to pinch u [and sometimes does!!!] or bite-and now for no reason is he pinching- and laughs after he does it. His mom [my sister] smacked his hands and says "NO Pinching ANTHONY NO PINCHING" but he looks at her and laughs and does it again. To me I feel it is age appropriate and him knowing he is hurting u and kids around--to my Sister- it is him not knowing what he is doing- and just does it to do it? what you guys think?

It sounds to me like he is doing it because he is mad that he is being distracted from something that he is enjoying (the climbing etc)... So I would say if he is always doing it when he is being told no, or is mad then YES he is doing it on purpose.

i agree with the others jordon used to do things like that for the effect etc . now he does it because he likes being mean im affraid .

Ds loves to hit people and say "ow, ow, ow" over and over. Even if I yell at him "stop! Aiden that hurts! Stop I mean it!" and try to phsyically restrain him (hold his hands down to stop him from hitting me) he still keeps laughing and saying "ow" over and over and trying to hit. It's as if he doesn't understand that I am serious and mad at him. However he also is overly sensitive and if I ever even lightly swat his butt or anything of the likes he just screams and cries hysterically even though I know it didn't hurt. Sorry I don't really have any advice as nothing I try works yet. Luckily ds only bites himself usually. He has only bitten someone else a handful of times and not recently. It is all very frustrating and I really wish you luck.

I know during Gabe's meltdown he bit me yesterday.  Not as bad as when I have been bitten before but it still hurt.
