Insurance Reimbursment | Autism PDD

Has anyone had anyone success getting their insurance to cover things like special made strollers for bigger kids, car seats, swings, and other expensive things that most of us parents could really use but cannot afford?? If so what did you have to do, fill out paperwork, pay in advance, etc??

Speaking as someone who used to work in the healthcare industry, the short answer is no.  Insurance companies will do anything and everything they can to not pay for things like this.  Unless a child has a physical disability and needs something like a wheelchair, they're not going to pay.  They consider the other things as "nice to haves" too!

If you have medicaid you should be able to get funding for some of these items if they are a requirement for you child's success.  Also, check around your area because some places allow you to loan out these items instead of purchase them.

Also, be sure to claim these items on your tax return.

Thank you for the info.
