Moving next yr | Autism PDD

They can't make you progress to 1st if your kids aren't ready. Make them repeat kind.

The problem is that academically he was tested and cognitively he is above avg but his speech and social skills have a significant delay.

I would move this year but we need to save up some more money.

He has no chance of repeating kindergarden in long island since he is already at a first greade level regarding academics.

But if we move to NJ I am hping that we would be able to hold him back a year to improve on his social skills and speech which depsparetely needs to improve.

But I am not sure how other states in this case view this.

My twins are born late in the year so even if my nt child needs to mature as well.

I am also alittle worried about other kids, even at this young of an age I see how cruel some kids can be, its funny some parents have the attitude that boys will be boys when there child is a bully, but if the shoe was on the other foot boy how there tune would change.

I live in long island where my 4 yr old son (pdd-nos) will be going to kindergarden in the fall. In long island if your 5 yrs old prior to 12/01 you go to kindergarden. They will be 5 in 11/13.

When we move next year to NJ, the cut off for 1st grade is they must be 6 prior to 10/01. My sons will be 6 on 11/13.

Would we have a choice of having them repaet kindergarden or will they tell us to go to first grade.

I would prefer to hold them back for social issues but hear in long island they won't do that for us and we can't move until next year.

Does anyone have any comments.

My little one will not be in mainstream kindergarten at all, but rather in an autistic classroom setting.

How do you recommend rockland NY schools for a high functioning child entering kindergarden? Is "INCLUSION" really practiced in New York schools? Also what kind of therapy do they provide in Rockland schools --- ABA or VB

Thanks in advance

akitasun I hope you are following my thread as our dilemma sounds quite similar!  I think it is in the parents' forum ...

Anyhow here in MO I believe if parents want to hold their child back, the school has no say. They can exert pressure, but they cannot stop you from doing it.
