Hello Everyone,
Below is my response to the June 25, 2005 article on the front page of the NY Times.
You can write a letter yourselves to oped@nytimes.com They need to hear this, the
time to be polite has passed. Don't let the media win this war. After 3 years of
screaming at the Denver Post, we finally got them to print the truth about our supposed
"50th in vaccinating" rank.  Feel free to pass this on.

Following my letter is the original article.
Sincerely,
Dawn Winkler

Dear New York Times,

Your June 25, 2005 front page piece entitled "On Autism's Cause, It's Parents
vs Research" would have been more appropriately named "On Autism's Cause,
It's Real Research vs Flawed Research".  I find it disturbing and careless
that the authors chose only one study (Geier) of the many available to pit against
the flawed Danish study and flawed IOM report. Why not mention those by Deth, James,
Hornig, Baskin, or Haley just to name a few? Why not mention the top secret Simpsonwood
meeting? And why not mention Anders Hviid's new employer? I'll leave that question
unanswered and mysterious for your readers to research on their own.

To clear things up, might I define the "government guideline" mentioned
in the article for mercury ingestion that has been exceeded via childhood vaccines
since the early 1990's.  The EPA limit for ingestion, not injection, of the less
toxic methyl mercury is .1 (point one) micrograms per kilogram of body weight per
day.  That's right, ethyl mercury is more toxic than those tuna sandwiches everyone
is so upset about which contain methyl mercury.  Ethyl mercury is preferentially
taken up by the brain and like all forms of mercury, is a neurotoxin which means
it kills neurons.  There is no established "safe level" for injection
of ethyl mercury by the EPA, FDA, or any other agency. But, if you are to go by
EPA guidelines, one would have to weigh approximately 551 pounds to safely eat,
not inject, the amount of mercury in a typical flu vaccine (25 micrograms). Isn't
it astounding that while we warn pregnant mothers to limit tuna sandwich consumption,
we make a universal recommendation that they all receive flu shots full of mercury
during the critical stages of fetal development?

Having done almost a decade of research in peer reviewed medical literature on this
subject, I'd have to disagree with David Kirby in that the thimerosal "theory"
will stand or fall within the next year or two.  Does anyone really believe that
all of the parents of autistic children will just go away and give up should the
powers that be choose flawed science over truth? I think not. The cat is out of
the bag.  This is just one of those things and here's my warning:  An entire generation
of children has been poisoned. The damage is incomprehensible.  Contrary to media
and Big Pharma generated propaganda, the science is there and it is not going to
go away. Just like the victims and their families are not going to go away.  They
will stand and fight until the truth wins out, mark my words. This war has only
begun.

I personally don't care that Dr. Geier and his son have wall-to-wall carpet and
faux wood paneling in their laboratory. I have met them in person and I care that
they don't receive funding from pharmaceutical companies.  I care that they are
honest, qualified, sincere, and caring human beings in search of the truth. If that's
the best you can do to discredit them then you have failed miserably.  Shame on
you for the unprecedented disservice you have just done for the American public;
shame on you for printing such an unbelievably inaccurate, incomplete, and misleading
piece.  You owe it to everyone, including yourselves, to revisit this issue in a
timely manner. And this time, include all of the research, most of which is available
at our media petition site, www.autismtruth.org
