My daughter loved Barney from about 4 months old until...well, she hasn't stopped. We watched the videos over and over and she memorized all the songs and many of the lines of dialogue. But as she grew older, we showed her different things and she branched out to Sesame Street, Disney, Kidsongs, BabySongs, etc. So if you can endure it, maybe your son will eventually just move on to new things. Getting a DVD player definitely saved our VCR as well.

Also I TOTALLY hated Barney but it grew on me, mainly because it actually helped my daughter communicate. She would use some of the lines of dialogue to indicate things she wanted, and since there is a song for practically everything, it was helpful to use them to get her through various activities. I read somewhere that you can use their obsessions to help them, so even though it makes you want to scream, it can be a useful tool to get through to your child. It wouldn't work for every child, but it did work for mine. Just my 2 cents.

get a dvd player. my son was always breaking vcr due to  playing same part of tape over and over. dvd's may get a little scratched but they don't break the machine. has had this dvd player for an entire year. i dare any one to bring barney in to my house

Thanks for all your help - advise !!!!

Still open to hear what everyone else has done !!!

Tj loved to watch Barney movies too. He also loves Wizard of Oz. I have seen that one so many times I memorized the dialog! We bought a Barney cd for TJ earlier this year. He loves anything with music. He now wants to hear his cds and dance. He is trying to sing some of the songs too. I hid the Barney videos and the wizard too. Now he gets the Wizard as a reward. Right now he loves bear in the big blue house. I really cannot complain because my girls love it too. So I use it for rewards  or if I have to go somewhere and leave him with either his sister who is 16, or grandma- It just makes it easier for them. Try to divert his attention maybe with a game or something else he loves.

Good luck it was kinda ugly for a few days but now he is fime with it all. Hope this helps some

Be thankful it's not your computer. Takoda routinally locks mine up or somehow shorted a wire yesterday. Denny to the rescue again. I don't know what I would do without my WIZ KID.

My ds LOVES our comp! He turns it on and tries to use the mouse and keyboard. I dont' know if he just thinks it's a toy or what. I have some joking about it on my blog that I updated the other day.

We go through the same thing! My 3 year old was so hooked on Barney and then we put it away one night when he was sleeping and he cryed all day and I kept asking him if he wanted other movies and now he is on Thomas but then if he wants to watch it in the same day we  tell him Thomas is sleeping and then he will watch something else.

At one time my kids had an obsession with the Lion King.  I had to hide that tape.  They started doing that with Finding Nemo but fortunately I moved.  And after I moved I could never find the remote to reset up the vcr

My husband and I agreed to ban Barney from our home before we had kids. Neither dd or ds know who he is lol. I don't know what to do to save you in vcr's though. That's a toughy! Maybe get it locked up somehow?
