Personally, I would recommend waiting until December. The logic of letting him settle into the new setting makes sense. The IEP can always be reviewed and changed based on the eval results.

My son is moving to a different school in the same district next school year. His three year review is in December. Since he is moving to a Kindergarten class with only autistic students and mainstreamed for parts of his day I thought it would be better to test him now before we develope the new IEP. The rest of the team wants him to wait until DEC. because they want him in the new class for a while before the testing.
What do you all think would be better?Test him now before the new IEP or wait until he's been in his new setting for a while. I really don't know what their reasons are for waiting. I asked the psychologist about IQ testing and she said they don't want to do that, not even the non verbal because they don't think they will get a accurate result on him. To test or to wait? What would you do?
I would also wait. I agree that there is little use in doing the IQ testing right now. An autism specific classroom is a terrific placement so the testing is not needed to ensure the correct services. Once he has been in the new placement for a couple of months, having the new team do the assessment is a great way for them to become really familiar with your son, spend lots of 1:1 time with him, and get to know his strengths and weaknesses first hand. If the testing is done now, then the new team will be relying soley on a written report for that same information.Thank you very much for your advice! I've got to stop thinking that there's some hidden agenda ALL the time.
