Do you have the link Deerhart?

I would think the dr office that gave the shot would have a record in your chart It should contain lot number name brand whatever all information on the drug and what company it came from and so forth. Then you should be able to contact the company with the lot number to find out if it contained thimerasol or not. I would start there.

talking about mercury in vaccines, but it mentioned that thermisol is also found in rho-gam shots (shots giving to RH negative mothers when the father of the baby is RH+) and I wonder if anyone knows how to check if those shots really do contain it.  WOuld be interesting to find out because these are routinely given to moms around the 28th week (I had it with both my boys) and then again if the child is found to be RH+.

no I haven't I will have to get ahold of my OB/gyn to see if I can get the lot number and the manufacturer.  I hateds those shots and was so glad my second child was RH- so I only had to get the one shot while I was pregnant, versus getting the shot after the birth as well.

Whats even funnier is all my life (and all over my records) had my blood type as A+, then the blood tests done during my first pregnancy came back A-.  THe hospital I was born in mistyped me at birth or wrote down my mother's blood type for mine.

If you are rh- and the dad is rh- you don't need a shot.  And sometimes if the vaccinations records cannot be found or incomplete they do give you vaccine shots with your first pregnancy.  And generally after your first pregnancy they will give you a shot to protect against having the rh problem.

Tammy

the dad wasn't RH - he was RH+ thus I had the shot at 28 weeks with my first child (after they checked blood levels just to make sure everything was okay) and since my oldest son was rh+ I had the shot again 12 hours after he was born.  With my second child they checked levels at 19 weeks and then since they were fine I got the shot at 28 weeks, but he is rh- so I didn't have to have it after he was born.

If (by some miricle) I ever have another pregnancy longer then 13 weeks I have to have the shots to prevent rh sensitivity during the pregnancy and after any birth of an rh+ child.  Thoguh, since I have had neither miscarriages or a c-section, the chances of any of the babies bloods mixing with mine is greatly reduced.

My vaccination records are all complete and updated, especially since you have to prove your fully vaccinated now for many colleges, so that was never a problem.

I don't have any RH sensitivity at all and the rho-gam shots are now given to try to prevent that from taking place (my cousin on the other hand does have RH sensitivity from her first pregnancy and they had to treat her differently).  I actually have little cards I carry in my wallet that state I am RH- and when I had my last rho-gam shot with all the instructions on when I am supposed to get them.

They didn't do that with me.  All they did was monitor my blood and once the rh factor got to be a major issue they induced labor.  And yes the baby was born with rh+ blood and they did complete blood transfusions.  And that process took at least 12 hours.  I had the amnio's done.  And with Jeffrey and Gabe I was never given the shot while I was pregnant with them, only afterwards.

Tammy

i use to have the cards also-dont know what happened to mine. forgot all about it.

with both of my children i got the shot during and after. and i even had a miscarriage and they gave me the shot. this is very interesting reading.

It is not given if the child is rh+ and the mom is rh-.  They monitor your blood to see how high the count in the blood is.  Do they give you a shot after the baby is born?  Yes they do.  If the count goes too high they can either do invitro blood transfusions or induce and deliver the baby.  After the baby is born they will do complete blood transfusions.  Which is a very lengthy process.  All the body knows when a baby has a rh+ type is it is a foreign substance in the body and the body attempts to fight off the infection.  The body detects it as an infection.  It doesn't recognize that you are pregnant.  Also if you are rh- the body can have spontenious abortions.  They are suppose to give you a shot with your first pregnancy but sometimes not all women get that shot.

Tammy
