We use Prozac for rituals and anxiety. Payne is also on Risperdal - that is for the aggressiveness. Do any of you have a child that is on medication for OCD behaviors? My son doesn't have diagosed OCD, he's PDD but I was wondering if this type of medication would help with the routine stresses. My doctor has suggested risperdol but then again she isn't sure because my son isn't agressive. He only tantrums when a routine is broken or is he can't make his wants known. My 10 yr old takes Risperdal for anxiety, obsessive thoughts, aggression and transitions...It works well for autism, OCD and bi-polar disorder...Does your son have anxiety???   Mine did around 7 yrs old and now at 10 he is OCD too...he struggles with obsessive thoughts that control him and Risperdal helps with this...he also struggles with change and that can cause a severe OCD attack...My son takes Lexapro for his OCD's.  He has a lot of them.  The Lexapro works great for him.

Our doctor just recently suggested starting our girl (6.5 year old) on some zoloft in small doses for her OCD behaviors that go along with her autism. However, when we went to get our prescription, we discovered that our insurance did not want to cover this medication (which is very very frustrating! -Seeing even after our doctor called them) The insurance company suggested we try prozac instead - which aggravates me that they think they know beter than the doctor - or actually I am sure it has to do with medication costs. Well, we are frustrated about this and are waiting to speak with our Doctor this Tuesday again to see what we are gong to do on this issue. We are not really sure about the prozac. What are you experiences with the prozac???My son started Prozac at the age of nine for severe anxiety. It has worked great for him. 2 months after he started it he learned how to ride a two wheeled bike and stopped double stepping stairs. And a lot of the negative talked stopped. We started slow with 10 mg. a day, now that he is 12 he takes 20mg. a day. Oh yeah some of the OCD behavior went away, but were replaced with more acceptable ones for his age. Risperdal did nothing for me mentally, only made me gain 50 lbs. in 3 months.  It's a serious anti-psychotic that you can't just quit cold turkey, so make sure to research the side effects and weigh the pros and cons before starting it.
