Cute Stuff 6-27-05 | Autism PDD

I just read all the cute stuff your dc did this week posts. Everyone was soooo happy to post good things and it was so relieving to read them all. I insist we do this every week. We see the hardships all week so why not see the good all week. Especially after I was in tears about the friends in highschool post

Corbin (2.5 pdd-nos) this week did his first accomplishment on the picture board today! We just started the simpliest of picture boards 2 weeks ago. It has favorite toys and he must sit and must master the toy. We play, I ask if he wants, dad makes him take the picture off and hand to me, and I praise and play and repeat. These include puzzles, shapes, blocks, ect. TODAY I said do you want block and held the picture board in one hand, block in other. HE picked the picture up and handed it to me!!! No guiding. It is the only picture on the board at the time. But usally he picks it off and throws it down. I am sooo proud of him.

He is learning to talk but still only 15-20 words so this picture board is new method we hope will work.

Cant wait to everyone else's stories!

That's great! Good job Corbin! I know my son counted (not perfectly but who cares!) to 8 last week and I about fainted! It was just out of the blue and he hardly says any intelligible words normally. I'm glad your ds is getting the idea and I hope he continues to improve!

Bengingerc,

How truly wonderful!!  It is great when they do something that makes us proud isn't it?  My son has started to ask WHERE questions this week!!  So now all the time it's been, "Hey Mommy, where's my spiderman?"  "Hey Mommy, where's my nemo mask?" etc.  Always starting with HEY MOMMY.  LOL  It's funny...i remember it wasn't so long ago that he didn't even call me mommy.  It's wonderful the progress that he has made thus far and I am so proud of him!!

Karrie

This week, DS think if he just says "please" or rather "peesh" he get what he want-LOL! It's so cute, he's usually right. He usually follows with "Thank You" before you even give it to him.

Thats sooo great!!! Congrats to everyone who's made such great accomplishments this week

Stephanie

mu guy now knows all the words to joan jett's "hate myself for loving you" and aerosmith's "walk this way" and has been rocking out to them for the last few days!  my 2 kids are ROCK STARS !!!!!

I love these threads!!! thanks so much for starting them!!

Shakes...LOL ...rock on!  that's awesome!

Stephanie...how super, its funny my guy only started w/ more, but it helped him get his needs out to us...keep up the great work!

Srs-mom, sounds like you have a little charmer LOL...how adorable!

Karrie, my heart ached for your post, I know I longed to hear mommy for 4 years, now I hear MOM-MEEE!  and its the best and I can't wait to hear him ask questions some day... I pray...he does say "what is dis?" alot when he sees something new or someone new  and its funny how his voice goes up at the end of the question LOL..

dovesnest...if you know he's counting and can understand him that's all that matters for now...keep up the great work, my guy had a hard time pronouncing things too...he'd count, von, bue, bee, boor, bibe..etc...but now its clear and I miss his cute way of counting!!!

And Ginger, thanks again I needed this today! It sounds like your guy is doing so well, that's a biggy when they can use the pec or picture board, and 15-20 words is a great start!

My cute thing is...I got to go w/ my Nicholas on a class fld trip to the beach today, it was awesome, and this morning before the bus came I sat next to him at breakfast in a little chair and he thought it was just hillarious to see mommy in school w/ him, he kept coming right next to me kissing me and giving me hugs and laughing then sitting down eating and watching what I'd do! I was in my glory!  then he gave me a cheerio because at home to get him to begin to eat sometimes I use to pretend to be the cookie monster eating, and say yum yum yum delicious! and pretend I'm freaking out eating the food for him...well we haven't done it in sometime and today he put the cheerio in my mouth and I said thank you, and he said no...yum yum yum delicious!" real fast in cookie's voice and cracked up... he never did that before I was almost in tears...its was such a good day, and I really needed it!  He's been saying it hear and there all day now and even to dh...he's very silly and we love it!

Can't wait to read some more post!

big hugs!

Jeffrey just told me that he wished I was a fairy.  That way I would have a magic wand and be able to get him things when he wanted them.  Oh how I wish!!!!

Tammy

Jeffrey also told me he has a money tree.  I asked him if he had a money tree and he answered "yeah".  I then asked him where it was and of course, no answer.
