ryansmom, yes, i would love to her number. Thank you.I have never heard of him either. David Childers is who saw my son. But, I would also like a second opinion. O do know that Roberts drive is at the beach. Isn't that the same road that BAPTIST BEACHES HOSPITAL is on?My son is scheduled to see Dr. Childers also. I have heard very good things about him..I was okay with him. When my son went for his initial evaluation he was great with Daniel. But, I did not like the way he was with us. Anytime I asked a question, he said point blank we will cover that when you return for your parent conference. I felt like he was very thorough but, when we left I told my husband I didn't really like his disposition and neither did my husband. However, when we returned it was like he was a whole different person. He was engaging and personable. So, I don't know what the deal was with the first meeting. Then we went for a 1 year follow up and he was engaging again, but I will tell you he is not quick to diagnose autism. He didn't even put my son on the spectrum and yet, I know I am not a doctor but there are too many commonalities for me not to consider Daniel atleast on the spectrum. The school also has him rated as autistic. Dr. Childers just said that he is communicative disordered. So, I don't know. I wouldn't say that I am completely un satisfyed but I would welcome a second opinion if I knew someone had someone that they highly recommended. I just am really happy with what the school is doing for him now so I haven't been in hot pursuit of another doctor. The diagnosis is not as important if I know he is getting the help that he needs. My daughter though I might be interested in someone else. I tried to get her in with Dr. Childers and because she is 9 they sent her through a psychologist and then a psychiatrist and I did not like either one of them. And they were both through the center for autistm. I would like to find another pediatric neuro developmental doctor for her.Dr. Childers gave my son his dx. we have a reeval next week. What did you guys think of him?Just popping in to the "Jacksonville" thread to let you know that there is a Special Ed Law and Advocacy training coming to your area in late April - presented by Pam & Pet Wright. If you're interested, check out the thread on the "Conferences" board.Hello Everyone!!
My name is Michelle Castanos and I am third year Special Education Student at the university of North Florida. I have been working with autistic children for the past three years and I have a 12 year old nephew who is also on the spectrum. I have been providing babysitting and respite services to local families of autistic children here in Jacksonville Florida for the passed 3 years. I know how hard it can be for parents to take some time off and I am aware that regular babysitters sometimes don't know how to work with children of special needs. I am highly qualified and have great references if needed. If you have any questions or want more information on my services feel free to contact me at Michelita430@aol.com. Hope to hear from you guys soon!
