i am sorry that u are going through such a hard time right now . my eldest son was put on risperdal for suicide behaviour and violance etc to his brother (also asd but very withdrawn so not aggressive etc) and others including myself . i hope that in time ur son will be able to come home . jordon has been off the meds for 3 months now for the first time in years and he is not as violent as when he was put on them (he has only hit myself and hubby three times since he has been off the meds and as he is 10 and nearly as big as me so i am relived) which shows that with the right help and time there may be hope .

good luck and take care xxxx

Hello Everyone,

 I'm am new to this board. I am so happy to have found it today. I wish I had found it sooner. I am the mother of an 8 year old boy named Quinn who has a dx of PDD-NOS with autistic features and a paternal family history of NF.

 Quinn was admitted to the child psychiatric unit at a local hospital here in the Boston area due to his out of control behavior at school. I know he needs to be there right now to get the help he needs but I am having such a hard time with him being in the hospital.  Any advice on how to cope would be greatly appreciatted.

                                                                  Thank you,

Ang,

Welcome to the board.  I'm Karrie.  I have a 3 year old son with Pdd-Nos.  I'm so sorry to hear that Quinn is in the hospital.  I know it must be so hard on you right now.  I've never been in your situation but I just wanted to offer support and to let you know that everyone here is very supportive also.  This is a great message group.  I think you have come to the right place.  Please take care and keep us updated on everything.

Karrie

Hi Ang Welcome to the board! I am so sorry you are going through such pain right now with Quinn being hospitalized. I know it is hard. I can't really say anything is actually helpful going through this period... you have to take it one day at a time and keep telling yourself he is there to get better. I'm glad you have found this board and think you will like the support you get from here. Everyone is very caring and understanding.

Just one question.....  What is NF?

NF= Neurofibramotosis?

This board is a great place to get advice and support or ideas on how to handle different things reguarding my son.

Quinn has been in the hospital for a week now and is handling being there alot better than I thought. He is having an EEG, an MRI, a CT Scan and a blood test to test him for Fragile X.  He has been started on Risiridol and Ritalin for meds.  He just started these meds so I haven't seen any change in him yet. i wil keep updating his condition. He may even be coming home on friday.

                                                              Thank you all for listening
