Skills trainer calling in sick.... | Autism PDD

Unless there's a d**m good reason, it's not acceptable for her to call in sick. Is the teacher on the same page as you? If not, contact the head of the special ed dpeartment, and explain the situation. It is never okay for ANY employee to miss work that frequently, unless there are extreme circumstances (which it seems there are not in thi situation.)

I'd demand a new skills trainer. Your daugther isn't getting the support she is entitled to, and that's not okay.

Good Luck

Sounds like something someone would do before leaving a job especially if they have a ccrued sick time they are trying to use.  Maybe out right ask her if she plans on leaving and should you find another trainer who can be more consistent in your child's life.FIrst of all, count up the days your child has missed her skills training. Then, write a not to the school district (if your child is age 3 or over) and ask them for compensatory time for ALL the hours missed.  Do this IN WRITING to your IEP Team Chairperson.  That person will HAVE to contact you since this is an official question about your child's IEP. Then you'll have someone's ear. YOu don't have to whine or complain. Simply state that, due to the trainer's absences this year, your daughter missed X number of hours of training and you want to now, in writing, what the school intends to do to compensate for that time.  If it's on your child's IEP, they HAVE to give it to her.  Let THEM address the agency from which this woman is sent.  That's why they get paid the big bucks.  And follow up with the District until you get a plan from them for compensatory services.

Looking for suggestions.....

My dd started preschool on Feb6. Since then her "full time" skills trainer has called in sick 11 times.  DD has had a sub or no one more than she's had her permanent skills trainer. I spoke to the teacher and she agreed with me that the calling in sick has been excessive. We both spoke to the ssc who is in charge of finding the skills trainers. She talked to the agency and asked them to straighten her out or find us a new trainer. Then the trainer called in sick again this past friday. On top of that she called right at 8am (when school starts) so they didn't have time to find a sub. She wasn't even sick she said something about having important personal business..... I'm so frustrated. Any ideas??
