Hello all, I haven't posted in a while but wanted to check in and update, Junior Mint, 5 1/2 year old HF PDD-NOS just started summer camp at a "Gymnastics Acadamy" and man, the first day went great! He saw a few kids from his preschool, was not shy and introduced himself to the counlsers and was happy! We have him in 1/2 day for now 9-1, for 4 days per week, they do a lot, mandatory swimming lessons for 45 minutes, gymnastics training, mini golf and arts and crafts. When I went to pick him up from my parents (who are our day care) he was asleep, had about 1 hour nap and looked pooped. He was happy though and said he likes camp and its fun, he said his favorite part is swimming (we have a pool so he is comfy in the water)
Now, this is a typical day camp, they do have kids with some delays but its not specially for kids on the spectrum or anything so I was a little uneasy but they keep the kids so busy all the time that I knew Junior Mint would do good as he is very very active. In the fall he starts a regular mainstreem kindergarden so this will be his summer fun, if all goes well in the next few weeks we will maybe try full days, 9-3:30 but for now, we do 4 days a week, 1/2 day 9-1pm.
I am just so happy that he enjoys it, we visited the place and it has a big gymnastics training center gym inside, its definatly the real deal. Price was comparable to day care and they are active all day. He made a fan for his arts and crafts project. Another great part is, that its 5 minutes from our house so we are pretty lucky on that. I figure the place has about 250 kids so its a decent size place. Just wanted to share...
WAY TO GO JUNIOR MINT!!!
