hello - new here | Autism PDD

Hi Hopefulmom, Welcome to the board.

It is difficult when our kids are diagnosed. My son is 9 3/4 he was diagnosed 7 years ago However due to the schools inability to produce and implement a productive IEP and their unwillingness to make any changes has caused my son regression. I am in the mist of fighting the school for approperate services, and part of that is re evaluations. Although I know more now then I did back when we first started, and realize my son had met all the criteria of classic autism but was instead diagnosed with PDD-NOS, knowing he will be re diagnosed with autism is bitter sweet. I'm happy his needs will then be recognized and hopefully he will be given more help or services that he needs, but it hurts too.

You aren't  alone I know there are some moms here who have just recently gotten a diagnosis for an older child. So welcome, and I hope you feel at home here.

My name is Linda, I'm a 40y/o SAHM to 3 "kids". Sharon 24 y/o, Nikki 16 y/o, & Tony 9 y/o. Sharon has been diagnosed with alot of different things, but schizophrenia, bi polar & manic depression are the hardest ones to deal with. She has her own apartment, but with LOTS of help from my Hubby & me. Nikki lives with her biological mom, we only get to see her every other weekend. She'll be in the 11th grade in August. She's such a joy to have around. She has a fantastic head on her shoulders, & is very funny, loving, & bright. Tony has HFA (High Functioning Autism). He'll be in the fourth grade in August. He's a very affectionate, funny, smart boy. He loves to sing, dance, & make people laugh. You wouldn't even know that he's autistic except for when he gets anxious, excited or scared that's when he flaps his hands. He also does a sort of throaty sound almost all the time. I also have 2 Grandchildren from my oldest Daughter. Rayna is 5 y/o & lives with her other grandparents ....long sad story. Riley is 2 months old & stays with me. Although Sharon loves BOTH her children VERY much, she just can hardly take care of herself, let alone children. She got her tubes tied after Riley was born though, so THAT won't happen again. We live in Indiana.

I think you'll love this board, it's FULL of caring, informative people!

PM (personal Message) me or e-mail me if you'd like, I LOVE getting BOTH!

God Bless you & your Family & keep you all safe!

Hello. I'm a mom of a newly diagnosed teen with PDD-NOS, anxiety & depression. Is anyone out there in a stage like that? It's been a long road and I'm glad to have found an active forum specifically for parents. I don't have any specific questions right at the moment but wanted to introduce myself.
