4 year old vaccinations?

Back to Autism Information >> Next Topic

my son's 4 year old well visit is coming up next Friday, and I'm scared about the vaccines. They say he needs 3 (dtap, polio, and mmr) all at one time. I'm thinking of spliting them up-letting him get 1 on friday and the other one's spaced a few months apart. What are your thoughts?

Both my girls are exempt from vaccines because of immune problems but I am not convinced that they have no role whatsoever with the rise in autism..to say I totally believe the government and pharmaceutical companies are telling the truth about them just aint happening. Sorry, I wish I had a better answer...I would space them out and make sure NO thermerosil is in any of them..ask to see the label to make sure-don't take their word for it..JMHO

I am worried about this too. My son is 3 now but when it comes time for his vaccinations at 4, I am just going to have to be really cautious. I think spacing them out is the best idea.. I think for the MMR you can ask for mumps, then measles, then rubella.  Does anyone know if theres a way to make your child exempt from the 4 year vaccines? Well, thanks for starting this post. Im anxious to see the responses. jen78fl39142.5765509259I am facing this myself, my boys turned 4 Feb6 and I am forgetting about it accidentally on purpose. I know eventually I'm going to get a note from the school saying they can't attend if they don't have their shots. My 21 month old is very behind on her shots, I think she was suppose to get them at 18 months. I think spacing out sounds like a good idea, I might do that.I had my son receive the tetanus only, and had a "tither" done to check immunities from the first round of shots.  All it takes is a simple blood test to show if the firs shots provided enough immunity, so that you can avoid a second round.  Usually a letter from the physician stating that the thither showed immunity will be sufficient for school enrollment.

I said no to the shots at the 4 year old visit. Normally, the second
round shots can be given between age 4 and 6, so take your time
to research and think about it before you decide anything.

My son just turned five and will be going to Kindergarten in the fall. I have put off the four year shots to this point, but I am going to have to do something in the next few months. I am really hesitant to do further immunization on him, even though I am not convinced either way on the autism-immunization issue.

Took a bit because I had to search for it but here it is..it may be of interest for this topic.

1.    A concentration of 1:10,000 is equivalent to a 0.01% concentration. Thimerosal is approximately 50% Hg by weight.   A 1:10,000 concentration contains 25 micrograms of Hg per 0.5 mL.
2. A previously marketed lyophilized preparation contained 0.005% thimerosal.
3. COMVAX is not approved for use under 6 weeks of age because of decreased response to the Hib component.

This product should be considered equivalent to thimerosal-free products.  This vaccine may contain trace amounts (<0.3 mcg) of mercury left after post-production thimerosal removal; these amounts have no biological effect.   JAMA 1999;282(18) and JAMA 2000;283(16).

Also here is another website that has the mercury calculator  It' s the national vaccination information website.

Our ABA therapist informed me her mom faked all the doc's signature on their vaccine record because she was so against them. They also ate only organic foods and never any sugar   Not sure you could do that now on records as that was over 25 years ago! Very interesting how none of her siblings came down with measles, mumps, chic pox! heck I got all of these and I am still alive but some of these vaccines really erk me  Why give a hours old newborn Hep-b vaccine (blood born virus) that can only be gotten by blood-to-blood transmission ex: meaning sex, needles, blood transfusion  ect... It is so mind boggling and this new one that is manditory for young girls and no research for long time effects Can't do it!

Shelley

I am totally holding off on vaccines for now.  He isn't in school yet and I'm not sure we will do more vaccines.  I'll have to figure it out for preschool next year though.  I'll have his titers checked so I can hopefully avoid another mmr.It isn't only the mercury issue as I understand it. It is also the issue of the vaccines overloading the immune system and the body responding by causing inflammation and possibly neurological problems.  You do not have to go through a process to have your child exempted from getting vaccinated. There is a spot on the vaccination sheet to sign saying you object to having the vaccinations for personal/religious reasons. But if there is ever an outbreak at the childs school (mumps for example) then your child will not be able to attend until the outbreak is done. As a parent you have the right to decided what YOUR child will or will not have put into their bodies.

First, if you have insurance, I would ask your doctor to do a titers test on all of them.  If they won't allow you to wait till your child enters Kindergarten to provide them with the proof of vaccinations...you can either get an exemption or ask for an extention.

If you go onto the CDC website, it specifically states that THE ONLY REASON why they administer the MMR to children for entrance into Kindergarten is because 2-5% of the population did not develop an immunity to the first MMR given b/w 12-18mos.  It is not a "booster." Seriously.  So they just do a blanket vaccination of everyone.  The funniest part about this is that many schools only require you to get the Measles vaccination, not the MMR.  However, you have to take it upon yourself to find a doctor willing to split up the vaccinations.  (Measles Mumps and Rubella - that is 3 vaccines in the MMR)  Same with the DTap.

I bet you could eliminate the MMR just by doing a titers.  Both of my children had elevated titer levels showing immunity for the MMR.

http://www.cdc.gov/nip/vaccine/mmr/mmr-faqs-hcp.htm#Vac3

  • Why is a second dose of MMR necessary?

About 2%-5% of persons do not develop measles immunity after the first dose of vaccine. This occurs for a variety of reasons. The second dose is to provide another chance to develop measles immunity for persons who did not respond to the first dose.

Top

  • If you can give the second dose of MMR as early as 28 days after the first dose, why do we routinely wait until kindergarten entry to give the second dose?

The second dose of MMR may be given as early as a month after the first dose, and be counted as a valid dose if both doses were given after the first birthday. It is convenient to give the second dose at school entry, since the child will have an immunization visit for other school entry vaccines. The risk of measles is higher in school-age children than those of preschool age, so it is important to receive the second dose by school entry. The second dose is not a "booster"; it is intended to produce immunity in the small number of persons who fail to respond to the first dose.

Here is a guide to those who should not get the vaccines - if your child has any of this, you may be able to get the doc to provide a medical exemption that can be approved by the county health department - http://www.cdc.gov/nip/recs/contraindications.htm

Side effects to vaccines: http://www.cdc.gov/nip/vaccine/side-effects.htm#mmr

You can also visit http://www.909shot.com/ for more info and if you want more state specific info you can go to http://www.909shot.com/state-site/state-exemptions.htm

Yes, look into what exemptions your state offers; religious, medical, and/or philosophical.  Rarely will a doctor give a medical exemption and I've read that philosophical ones are fought and often don't hold up.  I have a religious exemption on file for my school aged son (although I didn't do any research until my son was found to have autism.  Once I did, I said a big HELL NO to anymore vaccines.  I can't believe that I wasn't responsible enough to look into it myself.  I trusted the docs and what they said, but these are my kids...)

Anyway - don't do it because of what anyone else says.  You are not a bad mom because you do or because you won't.  We do what's best for our kids per our own experiences and opinions.
