just wondering if most of you ask to see and read school records prior to IEP meetings. I was reading a book about IEP and it stated that you should do this.I f you have done it has it been benefical and how so?
Thank you!I have done this before every IEP Meeting I have only asked once the other times they would mail me the reports on there own.. i would read them then they would set up the IEP .. It is benefical because you can walk in there knowing what they are going to say ..About whatever evalaution that your child had done.. What I do is read the report and break it down and put questions next to what i need to ask.. and that helps me understand it more.. Then when i go i ask the questions and i do not walk out of there forgetting anything.. Hope this helps.. I defintely do that. The law here requires they send them 10 days prior to the meeting but unless i nag they dont. It gives me time to read the reports on my own time and to give what i have read time to sink in. I know that I have more questions or comments if i do that.I think it is important to see your child educational record. It is a good way to keep track of how services are actually being delivered to your child, and if some services that your child should be receiving are lacking.
In Illinois, the "case worker" is shown on the IEP as "Coordinator, Student Services."
I just googled LEA Representative and got a number of hits that show it is a "Local Education Agency" representative and see the term used in context with students with disabilities. I'm pretty sure this is the equivalent of a case worker in your state.
who do you generally call to get them?i Have always talked with the case manager at the school that is assigned to my son for the year.. Just call and request that you get a copy.. They should have no problem with it. You are entilted to see them.. me too, I call our case worker and she sends them to me in advance.stupid question... is the case worker the guidance worker at the school?I have never heard of having a case worker..would this possibly be a LEA Representative?A case worker is a person that works in the public schools you shoudl have been assigned a case worker if you child has a IEP and in special ed.. Is your child in special ed and does he have a IEp.. IEP.... I am looking where everyone signs the papers and I am only seeing his teacher the OT & ST, Principle and LEA Represenative.Maybe The LEA is the case worker.. Here in new jersey it says case worker next to the name on the papers.. What i would do is call the LEA and just request them from her and if she says that she does not handle that then ask her well who does and she can point you in the right direction hopefully
