health question? | Autism PDD

my daughter complains of stomach aches all the time. i have tried different medications, brought her to different doctors. the gluten free diet stuff is very expensive. i am at the end of my rope. any suggestions on this?

What do the Dr's say? Have you had her tested for Celiac disease? Is she on meds currently?

If she ends up being Celiac, there are lots of sites online with easy recipe's for things (my Dad is Celiac),,,the store stuff is very $$...but the stuff you make is easy and cheaper...

best of luck..

I know this is gross, but how are her stools?  Are they loose and very smelly.  Are they hard and dark?  Does she have any gas?

Another thing you may want to look into is yeast overgrowth.  So many adults and children have it and it causes a lot of health issues.  Yeast overgrowth is one of the causes of the Leaky Gut syndrome because yeast release an enzyme that eats away at the wall lining.  Once the holes are created, then the gut doesn't work properly which means she is not aborbing all the nutrients from her food, may not be producing enough digestivev enzymes to break down the food (which leads to why parents do the gfcf diet), will have an unbalanced gut flora where they may be more yeast and bad bacteria developing while the good bacterias dissappear.

Things that you can do?  Give her probiotics.  Probiotics are a combo of various good bacteria that naturally occur in the gut.  You can use acidophilus (that is in yogurt), but that is only one kind.  Either way, do what you can because one is better than none.  You can get the probiotics from the health food store.  Try to get the ones that are refigerated.

I have also provided some links on the gfcf diet just in case you want to read more on it.  the tacanow website lists foods you can buy from the grocery store that are gfcf.  Plus, there are a lot of foods you can easily make at home.  Some of the sites are recipe sites.

i have brought her to many doctors, she has had all kinds of tests. we have had her on different meds. she occasionally gets the diahrea, or the opposite. i haven't lookrd at her stoold, but she can be very gassy.  thanks for the info.

Dawn,

Milk is usually the likely suspect in stomach issues.. we gave Sarah potato milk and did the GFCF diet for a year... it was a little more expensive but not much...You learn to make huge batches of things and freeze them.  Even our reg. grocery stores now have a section of GFCF foods like cookies, crackers and milk free products..

*** Our oldest daughter is on probiotics" acidolphilus and lactobaccilus for over 5 years now if she misses 3 days or more she has upset stomach and loose stools. It comes in 100 capsules in container so they last awhile..she is 15yrs old  and only gets 2 acidophilus and 1 lactobacillus a day to keep her GI tract without upsets..if she eats something that cause more distress we increase it for a few days till she is better again.  I swear by them and I feel she would of had to have her small intestines removed if we hadn't of tried this route..as the doctor already hinted to this. She is not cured (IBS/Ulcerative colitis) but she can have painfree days  and eat pretty much what she wants without prescription drugs. It is harmless to her and boost her immune system to boot.  She only gets sick now 1-2x a year compared to 6x a year when she was younger. Look into it~ Good luck!

ShelleyR39140.7960763889thanks for the info, i will talk to her doc. about this.

It's been exactly two years since my son Sammy was diagnosed with autism.  Sammy just takes glyconutrients, which are all natural phytonutrients... AND it controls yeast overgrowth.  Everyone around us is amazed at his improvements.

I had read so much about gf/cf diet and wanted to try it, but I was working 10 hours/day at the time and couldn't.  I saw Sammy immediately go through serious detox as soon as he started taking glyconutrients, so I felt better.  To this day, he has had no dietary restrictions.

You can check out http://www-best-autism-help.com which I started working on last summer and still try to add more pages.  This is about my personal experience with Sammy who had once displayed at least 90% autistic behaviors written about in books and magazines.

Now he's in half mainstream kindergarten half special-ed.  Although still slow in verbal skills, he is now bi-lingual and my goal is to be all mainstream in the next year or two.

Good Luck!
